Had my toenail removed last Monday, matrix kept in place as I am hoping it grows back normal. It was quite painful once the local wore off but has got better since. Today I have quite alot of pain in my toe, not the nail bed itself but underneath where all the skin is. I’m waiting for my podiatrist to get back to me as they can prescribe antibiotics if needed.
Does it look infected ? It’s pretty dry now but it’s the pain worrying me as it’s also shooting up into my lower leg and the side of my foot abit

Just an update if anyone ever googles and comes across this - not infected just irritated! The podiatrist shoved a metal cuticle stick down my cuticle to the membrane to check 😳😳

My son has this last year! Watched the procedure looked fucking horrendous! Had to turn away a few times 🤢 it doesn’t look infected but keep bathing it in salt water trust me this really really helps draw out any puss or anything incase it is, my sons got bad when he had his done his whole toe was blown up, red and pussing. Salt water really helped and he had to have antibiotics it took about 6 weeks maybe longer to fully heal.

Hi! Yeah it wasn’t nice but I watched it all it was weirdly fascinating! What kind of signs did your son get with the infection? Also how long did it take to heal completely and does it hurt now ? Worried I won’t be able to wear trainers ever again 😂

His toe was swollen and red and hot to touch you could also see greenish puss. I bathed it in salt water twice a day and made sure he had clean bandages every day too. His was bad though, it took about 8 weeks to fully heal properly, after a week and half he didn’t want the bandage on it so air could get to it, he still don’t wear shoes always sliders 😂 says it feels weird. It doesn’t hurt now and his nail has grown back but slowly he has the sides taken out as he had an in growing toe nail that kept getting infected.

Oh god, sounds like a nightmare I feel for him. Did he have it removed due to ingrowing toenails? I didn’t but have had them lots over the years and they think that along with gel nails damaged it.

Yeah he had the sides removed because of it. Kept getting infected so they removed the nail.
