Never like they portray it on the telly dramas?

Real life much better IMHO.

TrustedTheWrongFart · 19/04/2026 19:10

Not sure a min of trying to take a bra off followed by twelve seconds of thrusting would make entertaining viewing!

PearlsTeapot · 19/04/2026 20:22

Do you think it's better or worse? It's messier in real life imo.

Charlottejbt · 19/04/2026 20:25

Because IRL you don't have to look at close ups of somebody else's boobs. Unless you want to, I guess.

Turnitoffnonagain · 19/04/2026 20:27

They seem very serious the TV sex people, don't they? Not much laughing and fun. A bit boring. And there's never any smudged make up or standing on end hair. Not at all realistic.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 19/04/2026 20:28

I’m so glad it isn’t! Everyone on telly is in so much of a hurry to get it over with. It’s all ripping off clothes (and bodices) and a few thrusts then a mutually satisfying climax.

I mean, the mutually satisfying climax part would be nice, but not the clothes ripping.

user1471453601 · 19/04/2026 20:29

Well, if memory serves, I never had an orgasm from watching sex on film (or may be that's just me) whereas I usually did (again, if memory serves) from actual sex.

Crinkle77 · 19/04/2026 20:34

Tv sex is awful. Very little or no foreplay, the fella just sticks it in, thrusts for a minute then they both orgasm together. I dont think there's many women who would achieve orgasm off that.

BatsInHibernation · 19/04/2026 20:52

Yep, it's misleading and pretty sexist.
The women always have an orgasm just from a bit of penetration. There's no variety, it's all terribly serious and we see a LOT of her body and not a lot of his. There should be a lot more reference to clitoral action. It's still very much about sex being something men do, and women have done to them.
Which is crap.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 19/04/2026 20:56

Totally agree @BatsInHibernation

i think my first annoyance re sex on film was after watching Last Tango in Paris. I was furious he got to keep all his clothes on and she was nude for most of the film. And then later I read that he basically sexually assaulted her.

Simonjt · 19/04/2026 20:59

The only realistic sex scenes I’ve seen are in heated rivalry, they got it right to the point that you feel like you’re intruding.

Best bad sex scene, surely Will in the Inbetweeners .

Ellaitchar · 19/04/2026 21:32

Because, like life in general, most of actual sex wouldn't be much fun to watch on TV. It's quite repetitive, doesn't fit neatly into a three minute scene, and quite often involves squeaky beds and having to keep quiet so the kids don't hear.

Last time my now separated husband and I had sex, he had to take a work call during the shag and was stood with an enormous erection whilst discussing quarterly earnings data for five minutes. Again, not TV friendly.

Sorry but that just made me laugh!

BillieWiper · 21/04/2026 13:47

Because the ones on the telly aren't having sex? To me it's more of a feeling than anything else so me having sex with someone isn't going to compare to watching randoms pretending to do so on a screen.

I did notice in Grey’s Anatomy they show/imply the man going down on the woman at least, rather than the “thrust thrust oh that was amazing” you get on most shows.

No wonder a lot of men have no idea how to make a woman orgasm though when you see what tv shows them pleasures women…

LaurenBacal · 21/04/2026 14:55

I’ve been watching Friends and Neighbours on Apple. So many sex scenes that are all exactly the same. Vigorous thrusting and then mutual climax. It’s ridiculous and gratuitous.
