Best low-cost ways to prepare a house for selling?

What are your top tips for getting a house ready to sell please?

So far I have done a bit of painting of scuffed skirting boards and de-weeded the driveway, but what do you think works in attracting viewers and getting a good price? I don't have a lot of money to spend, unfortunately

Thank you

Declutter!! Remove anything that makes it look like you have no storage.

De-personalise. Appeal to the masses, not just your own taste.

Declutter!

Last time I sold a house I did a “Toothbrush clean”. Cheap but hard work.

  • wash down paintwork eg cupboards, banisters,
  • use Viakal to make showers screens and taps perfect
  • launder curtains and cushion covers.
  • Clean windows inside and out.
  • Dust absolutely everywhere.
  • Spot-clean carpets.
  • Get a damp rag and carpet cleaner and do a hands-and-knees clean of the edges where carpets meet walls - it removes “greyness” and makes carpets look fresh.
  • Iron the duvet covers
  • remove everything from kitchen surfaces except kettle for viewings.
  • using old toothbrushes scrub clean your shower screen edges, window seals and door jams, letterbox, grout, and all the nooks and crannies in the kitchen including the seals around

Would agree with all the advice above about decluttering and making sure it’s squeaky clean and would also suggest a couple of pots either side of the front door with pansies or colourful plants to increase kerb appeal. If you have any really strong colours on walls (that you think might put people off) white emulsion is very cheap and can freshen up a space and make it appeal to more people.
