Have clothes got more static-y?

Because mine seem to have done. I didn't used to use fabric conditioner, never noticed that my clothes were particularly static-y back then. I started using conditioner about ten years ago, again no static. I stopped using it a couple of months ago and now all my clothes are clinging and pinging like billy-oh. Sure it wasn't like that before. Is it because they're all made of plastic now? Or am I some sort of weird electric person? How do you prevent it, without using fabric conditioner?

Funny you should mention this as I said the same the other day. Pulled out a fleecy jacket from tumble dryer and I could actually hear the static when I picked it up. I put it on and, I do not want this to sound rude, it felt like I had a lightening rod stuck up my arse
