Aww! I’m weird and think slugs are cute so I wouldn’t be bothered about this 😅

Is there someone who can come and remove it for you?

rosydreams · 17/04/2026 23:44

Be thankful, I get slugs in my bedroom! I do live in a bungalow so a downstairs bedroom but to wake up and find one on the ceiling above the bed is a bit much! I’ve had them for a few years now, I thought they were coming up from the floor space beneath my bungalow, it has a 5 ft space with an earth floor designed to take any excess water as the estate was built on old marsh land. They are not big fat slimy slugs, they are thin, fairly small and black! After researching, I thought they were cellar slugs but now I’m not too sure.

i read that slugs do not tend to wander about in bright day light so I now sleep with a lamp on the floor shining near the edge of the carpet! I also have copper mesh and egg shells all along the edge of the carpet but I’m now wondering if they are sneaking in through the air vents so now I’ve blocked them with cardboard.

I have no idea how to find out where they are coming from or how to get rid of them! I live on my own so only me to deal with the problem - hence my user name!

Here’s a photo of the intruders!

Anyone who's squeamish about removing them. A long handled beach spade is your new most useful tool.

Im sorry but fuck that!!!
You need to move! I couldn’t put up with that.
What if one loses its stickyness during the night and falls into bed with you?!?
Id die!!

Flannelfeet · 18/04/2026 00:44

😱😱😱 can you get anywhere near your room to pack a bag to move out? Stuff that..im a scared cat though 😭.

Cocktailglass · 18/04/2026 01:24

Just one and not loads of trails? It may likely have been carried in under foot or made its way slowly from somewhere else. Just put it outside.

TyneTeas · 18/04/2026 01:32

Flowers OP that is horrible

But I am a really bad person and from your title I can only think about this being the latest UB40 single follow up

We got some in the kitchen sink. Dh put down jeyes fluid in the drain outside

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/04/2026 01:55

I get huge slugs. Peppermint spray keeps them away and smells nice! I can't use it though as I have a cat and it makes her ill.

So would I! In reality, that one on my ceiling did drop down when I went to find something to use to knock it down but landed on the carpet!

Goinggonegone · 20/04/2026 10:33

Can you put a sandwich bag or similar round your hand and pick it up to take outside?
Disclaimer: I could do this for a slug, but I once moved out for a week when there was a spider in my room.

rosydreams · 21/04/2026 18:57

If i tried to touch it with a sandwich i would wig out its so ugggghhhh

if i found them in my bedroom i dont think i'd ever sleep again, nightmare fuel. Its bad enough the cat occasionally throws up. So i immediately wake up if i hear something akin to honking up rip

Or a tub of Saxa

ILoveCwtches · 21/04/2026 19:03

I talk to any slugs I find, apologise for having to pick them up; and take them outside! I appreciate I am not altogether normal, mind!

DD gets the odd one coming into her bedroom through the vent, and we tend to find them dessicated in the corner of the room after they've failed to cope with the carpet. I prefer a squishy alive slug, to removing a dried up, dead one!

I also talk to any spider I need to remove on behalf of DH and DD. Apologising profusely as I go.

Pinkissmart · 21/04/2026 21:10

Do you have a dog? Mine used to bring them in …

Spangers · 21/04/2026 21:22

Oh no. They like to come in my kitchen at night through the tiny gaps around the back door where it meets the frame (it’s an old wooden one, stupid listed building) 🤢 Haven’t seen one in months so thought we’d got rid but oh no, one of the fuckers was in there the other night, slug bastards.

MoonlightMemories · 21/04/2026 22:35

This happened to me once...except I only found out when I got out of the shower and accidentally stood on it (thankfully not hard enough to squish it).... really can't put into words how revolting that was! It turned out there was a gap between some pipework and the loo that they were sneaking in during the night. Once it was sorted out we didn't get anymore turning up.

Pollqueen · 21/04/2026 22:46

I get slugs in my kitchen and a kind mnetter advised me to leave the light on at night. So far, so good 👍

I only came here to sing this.
And to feel sorry for the OP. Wr used to have loads but blocked up every single tiny hole and got rid of them.

That’s what I’m doing in my bedroom as I read that slugs don’t like bright sunlight! Rather that have the main light on, I put a bedside light on the floor and shine it on the gap between the wall and the floorboards which is also near the vents. There is copper foil and crushed egg shells stuffed in the gap and I’ve also boarded over the vents with cardboard!

Might be overkill but I’ve not noticed a slug since the one on my ceiling but I know from experience that if I remove one of the “defences” the buggers will come back!

My family think I am mad!
