Piercing: how screwed am I

When I was 19 I pierced a third hole in my ear lobe (upper lobe?). I used a sharp earring that other holes had been pierced with.

For reasons since forgotten, I took it out.

Now 20 years later I decided it was a good idea to repierce it. There was still a bit of a hole but it was closed. I used the sharp earring that DDs ear was pierced with last year. Then I put in another earring. It was surprisingly easy. (Especially after a bottle of wine).

I‘ve doused it in disinfectant. And now feeling slightly regretful.

How can I avoid an infection?

(please don’t shout at me)

Get a titanium stud or small hoop for it.

spray with saline solution twice a day, front and back (buy one specially made for piercings). Otherwise don’t touch!

I have the exact same piercings on both sides. 3 lobes, Tragus, helix and industrial. Lobe piercings 2 & 3 were done at my friends house with a stapler when I was about 12 so I kind of understand the silliness at 19! But, I am intrigued to know, why the hell did you not just have it pierced properly this time?! I think keep it doused in saline and at the slightest, SLIGHTEST hint of discomfort, warmth - remove it. It’s not going to heal properly for some time because internally the hole will in a right tacking due to the blunt force trauma you’ve inflicted on it. Again!

I used the spray that DD got when her ears were pierced last year.

I don’t know what material the earring is that I‘ve put in. Would it be better to change it to something non-allergenic? I don’t want to bother it if I don’t have to.

I think I‘m having some sort of crisis, my 40th is imminent 😂 Plus I‘ve always been quite spontaneous and if I get an idea in my head I have to do it straight away. I just randomly shoved the earring in while DD was brushing her teeth upstairs.

I‘ve got a helix that I also did myself at 19. I did two but again don’t remember why I now only have one 🤦‍♀️

I am a few weeks ahead of you. Haven't worn an earring in my third lobe piercings in decades, but having got DD to 're' pierce my second piercings a few months back without too much issue, I thought why not go for these ones too. One side (like with the second piercing, but on the other side this time) has been more sensitive and a bit weepy, but I've using the thinnest studs and turning them loads, and cleaning them. They are sterling silver - I did find some supposedly silver ones hurt more than others so stuck with those.
