How can I evict a non paying, loud tenant.

So. I have a freeloader. For about 5 months now. He lives behind my fridge. He is loud, and yells several times a day. I have tried to evict him but he just runs for it..then comes back later. He is a gecko. He is about 3 inches long which is huge for a wild gecko. He likes it here. He tells me to fuck off and laughs at me and runs away. Should I burn the house down lol.. By the way..this is just lighthearted, living in the caribbean , geckos are a part of life, this big boy just has been here for ages and grown from a little baby to the godzilla he is today. On the up side, he eats mozzies. How do I get this cocklodger out of my house?

We need a picture - have you named him?

Trallers · 16/04/2026 23:05

If he eats mosquitoes then personally I'd be letting him stay!

Team George for the win 😂😂

According to Google you need a monitor lizard or a hawk.

George seems quite nice in comparison!

lmao. no hawks here in dominican republic, but a monitor lizard? trying to get rid of one, sure not bringing in another one, especially one that could eat my dogs!!! lol

Then you'd need something to eat the monitor lizard! It'll be like the old woman who swallowed the fly!

Slinky lives under our sofa in the family room, the doors are usually open so he moves in and out frequently. He is probably about 20cm now. The upside is that he is a normal lizard, not a gecko, so a quieter neighbour overall.

I just looked up gecko noise on YouTube and now I’m howling 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I had no idea that they sounded like that!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 17/04/2026 11:12

@momager1 I have a gecko tattoo on my shoulder and henceforth he will be known as George 😊

Every day’s a schoolday! That’s today’s ’thing I never knew before’.
Can understand your wish to evict George, Op, but think the insect eating might balance postitive and negative.

momager1 · 18/04/2026 23:29

so. I now think I have a second gecko. I heard George's call.. then two seconds later heard another one answer him. I have NO idea where it is..but not possible for george to be in two places at one time. fuck I am going to have to move out to our car as the geckos are going to claim our home. Any mumsnetters living in the tropics..know these bastards drop poop like mice, but with a little white tip on end. Uggh. upside..my house has no mozzies in a very busy mozzie area

Awwwwww maybe he’s got a girlfriend 🤣

FavouriteBiggle · 19/04/2026 07:14

I used to live in SE Asia, and had a gecko living on my bedroom ceiling.

Happy days 😃

Waves to George.

Mydogisagentleman · 19/04/2026 07:38

We lived in Thailand.
Our daughter had a whole family living in her aircon in her bedroom.
She made up a whole backstory for them.

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 19/04/2026 07:39

George's distant cousin used to live on my bathroom windows - the outside of it.

You need to make George a nicer abode - offer him an upgrade to behind the fridge, and encourage George + girlfriend to relocate. Then the next generation can be born to keep you Mozzie free!
