I love many of these comedians but I just don’t think they’d be good company. For example Peter Kay - I think he’s probably quite truculent in RL. Same with Ricky Gervais - he’s probably quite insular. Someone I knew who knew Victoria Wood said she was actually quite serious. They’re not always natural clowns.

I’d have (based on that criteria):
Bob Mortimer
Romesh
Kathrine Ryan
Coin toss for one of: Lee Mack/ David Mitchell/ or Josh Widdicombe

If I could have a fifth I’d throw an American in to see if he could keep up - Louis CK (yes I know he’s cancelled).

Ted27 · 16/04/2026 20:41

Victoria Wood
Sarah Millican
Dave Allen
Dave Gorman

Yes, also had professional experience with Victoria Wood and while I love her and think she is the greatest comedy writer who ever lived, she would not make great dinner party chat. She was serious, quiet, introverted and sensitive. Also her favourite meal was ham, egg and chips.

financialcareerstuff · 16/04/2026 20:46

Robin Williams, Richard Prior, Trevor Noah, Jon Stewart

I have worked with Tony Robinson and while he is LOVELY, he is quiet, introverted and like a completely different person. Then you call ‘Action’ and he becomes Tony Robinson.

greyweek · 16/04/2026 21:17

Sarah Pascoe (can’t believe Russel Brand got a mention but not her…)
David Mitchell
Josh Widdicombe
