Skin care for 9 year old - possible ASD

Hi,

My DD has just turned 9 and puberty is well on it's way. We've had the chat about periods and have kits ready. Also bought deoderant in prep though she has not started to smell as yet.

However, I am noticing her skin on her face is looking sore. She has red around the nose (no mild cold) and looks like she could do with starting a skin care routine... at present she gives her face a rinse in the shower and a quick wipe with a face cloth after brushing her teeth if lucky.

She potentially has ASD (had initial appointment this week) and can be sensitive with textures. She also struggles to get ready in the morning, teeth brushing takes a lot of reminder, so thinking face wipes may be easier for her to start off with rather than a face wash as such.

Looking for recommendation of fun, kind products for tween that you have used and love?

Thanks in advance!

Why does she need anything just stick to water. Much better. I’ve actively discouraged anything for all of mine until they wore makeup. At 9 there’s absolutely no need to add anything at all

I wouldn't start a routine ,there's no need for anything other than a wash cloth and tepid water and maybe a dab of something like Cerave if she's a bit red.

ETA absolutely no face wipes as they're so harsh.

Thanks for this! I was having a google and some of the kits aimed at teens are so pricey and still look packed with chemicals.

I did read a good article on Boots about Cerave, so will get her a bottle of this and some new face clothes just for her.

Also, agree about the facewipes, I used them occasionally in an ermegency but wondered if there were any ones suitable for tween skin but a wipe with water seems the way to go!

I just panicked and wondered if there was something I should be doing by now. Thankfully she is still a "young" 9 and is more interested in playing than skin care trends! Some of the girls in her school in the year above are already well in to all this stuff!

I prefer the Cerave lotion rather than the cream in a tub.

I’d steer well clean if anything so skin routine focused and go with “clean” as an aim. Pillowslips and hair cleaned a bit more regularly.

I don't think a 9 year old needs a skin care routine! Wash with water and maybe a mild face wash and a dab of E45 on any red/sore looking bits.
