Holidays when you're in your 50s

DH and I are in our early 50s, DC is at uni, so for the first time since having kids we’re thinking of going away on our own in early May. We’re considering Mallorca. We’ve been before when the kids were younger and liked it, but didn’t really get to explore the towns, villages and coastal walks properly. That’s more what we’d like to do this time, alongside some comfort and relaxation.
I really don’t want to offend anyone, but I’d rather not end up somewhere that mainly caters either for pensioners or for families with very young children.
Ideally we’d like to be within walking distance of a beach and some restaurants or shops. We may hire a car, but would also be happy using public transport to visit Palma and other places. We’ll probably do a couple of hikes and maybe hire bikes too.
We do not want all inclusive. B&B, half board or self catering would all be fine. Main priorities are somewhere really nice, clean, comfortable and well located, but it does not need to be luxurious. Has anyone in a similar stage of life been and found accommodation they’d recommend?

Pollensa or Puerto Pollensa would be good bases. You can get buses all over the island. Hotel Illa D’Or is nice - right on the Pinewalk with sea view rooms. There is a nice market in Alcudia old town fairly close by (although quite touristy).

I agree Porto Pollensa is lovely. Great restaurants, lovely promenade for a wander and a great location to explore the island. We love getting a hire car and driving up the mountain roads to monasteries

We went to Porto Cristo a few years ago it is lovely quite quiet I can't recall the hotel sorry.
and we go out of term now so you get babies and toddlers sometimes but they are usually fine, check other UK/ROI countries summer holidays too.

We went here it was a bit remote but there was a shuttle to town every day till 6pm(ish)

We had an airbnb in Port de Soller. We were there for about 10 days, with a car for the last 7 days. Worked well for us and we explored the west side of the island a lot.

We actively avoid family oriented hotels/ resorts.
Went to Alvor in Portugal twice with friends, good base for exploring, not a single screaming child to be heard, was bliss 😀

I love the south east corner of Mallorca, the natural park and all the gorgeous little coves around the Cala D'Or area. I won't recommend a specific hotel as we currently do all inclusive holidays.

Soller or Port de Soller. More town feeling and less families.

I like Pollensa but for me it's a bit a family location compared to Soller.

We are of similar vintage to you, OP, and I would also recommend Port de Pollensa or Port de Soller. We enjoyed both. Alternatively, Santa Eularia on Ibiza would also be a good choice.

We've been to Puerto Pollensa twice with Jet2. We stayed in a hotel with self catering apartments, and meals were optional. It has a couple of leisure pools and a lane swimming pool. Short walk to the beach, bus stop and small supermarket. Might have been called Vilamoura? Highly recommend.
