This was on radio 4 the other day. Basically a host sets up in a pub or other venue and anyone who is lonely is welcome to chat.

Not by that name, but a local cafe has similar and I have seen friendship benches in various places locally for the same reason.

I think the idea of it sounds really good.
But in practice I would find actually going and chatting just as impossible as any other social situation. If I could go and talk to people in this social situation I would be able to join clubs and activities and I would solve my loneliness that way.

Yes. A couple of our local pubs run it.

I've said I would like to host one. Got to speak to the pub first and see if they would accommodate.
