What's the modern day equivalent of an iPod?

My 7 year old has recently discovered a love of music (with very eclectic taste!) and loves being in charge of the Spotify playing in the car.

I'd like for him to be able to do similar at home, but what is the modern day equivalent of an iPod? I don't really want him having an old phone as we'd like to avoid that for as long as possible! We're a Samsung/Android family if that helps, I parted ways with Apple in about 2005...

A Yoto is brilliant, except it doesn’t work with streaming, you have to actually own the music.

If it's for at home only, then get him an Alexa.

I wish so much they would bring the iPod back. So convenient for running.

MP3 players still exist.

That would work, it doesn’t say it’s compatible with iTunes, presumably not.

If it’s for home, get an Alexa and get Amazon music account.
