Housewarming gift for male friend in his 40s?

I’m struggling to come up with anything moderately priced other than a plant, but he already has lots of plants. Being in his 40s he already has the majority of useful items. He tends to like quirky things but that’s not really my style, also can’t afford to spend a fortune so I’m stumped!

Surely a bottle of something or maybe a cake of he doesn't drink.

I've never experienced the deep and meaningful housewarming gift. Who is he exactly?

Bigearringsbigsmile · 13/04/2026 16:39

I would still buy a plant.
Or a bottle of wine.

I’d buy a cool household gadget.

A blokey candle from tkmaxx? They do some sandalwood ones which may fit the bill.

I'd go to TK Maxx and see what jumps out at you. Loads of ideal type of gifts in there. Even food if you want to maybe make up a hamper.
Some nice hand towels would be useful too.

Hmm I think it might have to be a bottle of something. I think I had it in my head that a housewarming gift should be actually for the house but it is also a “congratulations” gift. He’s a male friend but he’s my only male friend and I find women so much easier to buy for. My female friends like flowers, candles, vases, photo frames etc. But this friend isn’t into anything like that

New salt and pepper mills but only if you know his are crap or broken.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/04/2026 17:50

A throw for sofa or bed?

Jeezaloo · 13/04/2026 17:54

A nice tray? Useful for dinners in front of the TV or carrying cutlery and condiments to the table, so you won't be judging how he lives or eats 🤣

HotRootsAndNaughtyToots · 13/04/2026 18:17

Good liquer eg Whiskey or his favourite expensive vodka

Failing that a Japanese peace lily á la Hot Fuzz

Love a nice tray.

Even if he doesn't drink, he can always use it for guests, no need to overthink imo

LiverpoolSnoopy · 13/04/2026 19:44

A humorous cushion?

Don’t know about his but my pepper mill is crap and broken so perhaps I could buy a set and only give him the salt one 😂

A bottle of wine and a card would be fine. If you wanted to do something different then a little hamper of food, snacks would be nice.
