Had anyone got pregnant from sex early in their cycle?

Thewatercolourflower · 12/04/2026 21:21

I am going to do a test, I just want to prepare myself.

I had unprotected sex on cycle day 5. I have long cycles now I am 43. I had random red spotting on CD 9 that never happened before, and didn't get fertile cervical mucus until cycle day 11.

Lately I have been feeling absolutely exhausted, nauseous and my breasts have felt very tender. I dont usually feel sick or have sore breasts as part of my pms. I am on cycle day 30 and no period yet.

As I said, I know the only way to know is to test. I am just working this out in my head before I test. i also know that a woman can technically get pregnant at any point in their cycle but I would have thought cycle day 5 is statistically low, especially at my age. I just need to mentally prepare and wondered if anyone else has ever randomly got pregnant from sex very early in their cycle.

i just want to talk before I test.

Not that early, but day 9 yes twice! (Not trying to conceive). Edited to add: in my early 20s though.

Cantgetausername87 · 12/04/2026 21:24

Hey its definitely worth a test but if your cycles are long generally ovulation is later. But my cycles are all over the place and it makes me worried about pregnancy- though I've only had protected sex. Also worth sticking dates into chat GPT that'll give you the latest time to test to make sure you're OK. Also depends which date you had sex ie how many weeks ago?
Edited as posted too soon. Because ovulation is all over the shop you want to work out the latest time to take a test for the result to be confirmed - chat gpt is good for this c

Yes - my friend got pregnant on cycle day 4 or 5, aged 41... Turns out ovulation can go a bit crazy at that age!

And she's not the only person i know to get caught out with wierd ovulation timings post 40.

I think day 7 and day 10. Basically as my period was ending. The day 10 I know because it was the only time we didn’t use protection (don’t worry it’s too early, I said …) The day 7 one is based on dates per my 12 week scan.

I did have short cycles.

I have a friend who had sex on the last day of her period and ended up pregnant. I would normally ovulate on day 7. Bodies can do weird things sometimes…..

Thewatercolourflower · 12/04/2026 21:49

I had unprotected sex on cycle day 5 which was 17th March. Today is actually cycle day 31. My app says my period is due on Thursday. I have just felt so, so wiped out and bloated but maybe thats a perimenopause period thing. Sorry, I know I sound about 16.

No you don't its stressful and peri makes it more of a challenge as you just never really know if/when you have ovulated and symptoms like that add to the stress. May be something or nothing, but good luck when you test I hope you get the result you'd like x

Thank you. I was feeling really silly. Had another look at my app and I got the ovulation pain and ewcm on day 20 so hopefully that was true ovulation, meaning a 15 day gap between sex and ovulation. I just feel unbelievably wiped out and like no amount of sleep is enough.

So today is cycle day 37 and still no sign of my period. I haven't done a test yet because whether I am pregnant or not pregnant, I will be disappointed or worried either way. I have such mixed feelings about another baby and we agreed to stop for a reason, generally all lifestyle ones. And yet I know that deep down I would be overjoyed if it was positive, although there would be obstacles and my husband would be furious! So no matter what, there will be some kind of downside! I am just speaking to you guys while I wait another few days for my period.

CD6 (and a condom 😮) with DC3.

I know for sure as it was the only time we had sex and I was just at the end of my period.

I was late 30's.

Must have done, although wasn't noticed at the time. Thankfully.... DC3 is now 8 and we'd not be without them!

Last day of my period so thought I'd be fine. But I was 30 years old and far from peri.

7 days.

A woman cannot get pregnant any day of her cycle. There are a maximum of six fertile days, the day ovulation occurs, and the five days leaving up to ovulation.

Yes but the theory is that ovulation can happen at any point in the cycle, unexpectedly and thus render all days a potential risk. I guess thats how so many women get caught out.

That’s not at all how the menstrual cycle works, thought unfortunately is what a lot of people were taught. The first part of your cycle is the follicular stage, dominated by estrogen and FSH, then your LH spikes triggering ovulation, afterwards your cycle is dominated by LH and progesterone. Ovulation doesn’t not happen randomly, there is a very predication build up. After ovulation has occurred it does not occur again until your next cycle.

The follicular phase is far less predictable than the luteal phase. My luteal phase is generally 17-18 days and rarely changes but the length of my cycle varies because I ovulate at different points through the month. Also, sometimes my body gives all of the signs that I have ovulated, and so I assume it has happened but it was a failed attempt and repeats it later in my cycle. Perimenopausal cycles are notoriously unpredictable which is why so many women of that age get caught out. I got my period @FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa but feeling ok about it.

Yes Ive fallen pregnant from sex on CD 5 and again on CD 7 ( my first and 3rd children).
At the time my cycles were 30-31 days long.
This is how I worked out that I must ovulate quite early. Also do keep in mind that sperm can last in the body for upto 5 days.

Ive also fallen pregnant from sex on CD 29 thinking that my period was due the next day so nothing to worry about (hello surprise 4th baby at 40). Perimenopause does weird things to ovulation and cycles.

Wow day 5 and 29! That really is some unpredictable perimenopausal ovulation!

Fell with my DS day 9, mid 20s, I wasn’t tracking ovulation though so I could have ovulated earlier than expected I guess.
