Do you have any family or friends who could help?

are you on social media? I would send a message to th admin of your local area fb group asking if they can do a post seeing if anyone can sign post you to where you can get support.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 12/04/2026 12:32

Olio? I've had all sorts of groceries from there.

Sirzy · 12/04/2026 12:33

Also is your child at school or nursery? I would reach out to them too they will be able to help you access support

Decacaffeinatednow · 12/04/2026 12:33

Can you ask your neighbours maybe?
Or your child’s friends parents?

QueenSmartypants · 12/04/2026 12:34

I'm so sorry you're in this position. For immediate help with food, the next places I'd try are you local places of worship - churches, synagogues, mosques etc
I'd also share your predicament in your local community Facebook group - you can post anonymously. I've seen similar posts before and there are always people willing to help.

Citizens Advice, social services and your local church should be able to help with more long term advice and support.

Decacaffeinatednow · 12/04/2026 12:35

If you could say where you are generally maybe posters could pinpoint more particular help in that area

Lonleyonegirl · 12/04/2026 12:58

The council have moved me miles from anyone and my parents have passed.
I jave a neighbour who might be ablento help next week but as im mostly at home i don't get to go out and meet people at the moment.

Sikhs do a lot to help feed those who cannot afford to buy food, you might have seen them in London.

Here's a link for the the sikh community in Harrow https://harrowsikhs.org/about-us/

Callmeback · 12/04/2026 13:04

Do you have a Buy Nothing Facebook group in your area? You could put an ask on there.

QueenSmartypants · 12/04/2026 13:04

Also contact these people: https://helpharrow.org/
They coordinate with local voluntary services who do a lot to supplement the local authority

Only one tin of beans? Surely you must have something else in your fridge/freezer/cupboard?

YellowHatt · 12/04/2026 13:07

Honestly OP this sounds like a scamming post, like you’re trying to get posters to send you money or ubereats.

Because during the week, it would have been obvious that you’d be down to literally ONE single tin of beans by the weekend. You wouldn’t have left it to today to try and sort.

LadyKenya · 12/04/2026 13:08

How old is the child? Have they already eaten something Today?

Ohhush26 · 12/04/2026 13:12

@Lonleyonegirl why didn't you reach out for help before it got to 1 tin of beans like on Thursday or Friday. Thats not a dig. Its just its easier to get help during a week day.

Anyway do you have children. You could contact social services there would be a duty social worker. When may be able to give food vouchers . The next door app may help.

QueenSmartypants · 12/04/2026 13:22

There could be all sorts of reasons why the op is asking now, its easy to judge if you've not been in that position.

This thread has now been checked out by mumsnet moderators and the op hasn't asked for any money, just advice, so I think it's safe to assume she's genuine.

Lonleyonegirl · 12/04/2026 13:24

Thank ypu
Hence the reason it took me so long to ask for help.
Reactions like yours.
How do u know i haven't been trying all week so im at my last .
Where have u seen me ask anyone for money or uber eats.
Is that something u do often as u seem to know a lot about it.
Who would be mad enough to gfive out there address in a chat fprum

Im confused how do you know MNHQ have checked it? Did you ask them to check?

@Lonleyonegirl its not meant it in a personal way. I'm sure you will know there are people out there who are not genuine. It can be hard to tell the difference.

Chatterlyssecret · 12/04/2026 13:33

Is there anyone that lives in or close to Harrow that can help out a desperate MN girl?

QueenSmartypants · 12/04/2026 13:35

https://advicefinder.turn2us.org.uk/Home/Details/6148

Contact details for adult social services if you don't have them. The turn2us website also allows you to search for individual grants you might be eligible for so take a look.

You could also reach out to your local Lions group for help: https://e-clubhouse.org/sites/harrow_pinner/index.php

It's worth reaching out to all the places ive suggested because even if they can't help directly they usually have excellent contacts within the area and may be able to make a direct phone call to someone who can help you.

Today though I still think local places of worship are your best bet.

Because a few minutes before I made that post the thread had been hidden for mumsnet to check out.
