If you have been to Crystal Maze do you rate it? Thinking about taking 8 13/14 year olds for a birthday party.

I haven't been for a few years but really enjoyed it when I did go - think it would be a great party but check the group size as 8 mighty be split up across two so won't necessarily all be together (and not sure if you'd need adults to go round too).

Love it.
Do it in a group of 8

What is it like? Is a group of 8 not too many? I watched a couple of videos of the place it looks fun. Would it be fun for 14 year old girls though?

It was rubbish imo. Really overpriced. It was tatty and worn out, the actor was not particularly enthusiastic and you spend a lot of time just watching. If they like puzzles/games you'd be much better off doing an escape room. It's only really worth if they're massive Crystal Maze fans.

Or do something else entirely, to pay for eight kids to do the Crystal Maze you must have a very healthy budget, you can definitely get something that's more fun.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 11/04/2026 17:21

You go around as a team (teams are 8 people) so if you are a group of 6 you'll have 2 randoms in your group.

Its sort of physical and also team based (mental challenges)

I've been with various ages and they all liked it...

If in doubt I'd check with your dd

You can also do the cube or we did a virtual room based on squid games which was SO fun...! Those are more modern / younger

I keep looking at this and the monolpoly live experience. They seem like a great ideas but I keep choking at the cost!

So escape room just as fun?

It is good but try and get groupon or virgin vouchers or something to make it a bit cheaper. The cube is better though.

idril · 11/04/2026 17:36

Escape rooms are good too but personally I think 4 is a better number than 6.

About £80 a head.

More fun imo because everyone is doing something all of the time. In the Crystal Maze I think you get to do two activities each and the rest is just watching.

NuffSaidSam · 11/04/2026 18:02

Although pp is right that six is a lot for an escape room, but you can do two rooms with 3/4 in each one.

Thanks. That would be out of the questions then 😂
