Sudden sense of dread today and trying not to panic

Anyone else get a sudden sense of impending doom? I've had this wash over me today suddenly and it feels horrid. I just have this sudden sense of dread and I'm finding it really difficult to explain. I have suffered anxiety and panic in the last and I have OCD. But this doesn't feel like the kind of panic I would normally get. After a quick Google, it says could be a heart attack or PE. I don't have any chest pain but not I feel like I've got pain iny shoulder but I don't know if I'm making that up. I've started to really panic some more. Anyone else had this?? And been ok?. Working myself into a right state, also feel.silly going to A and E and I saying "I feel a sense of dread". On the brink of a massive panic attack. Can anyone calm me the hell down. Hand hold needed.

I don’t know why anyone would subject themselves to 111 for well, nothing. It’ll be a 3, 4 maybe 6 hour wait for a call back.
They’ll wake you up when you really should be sleeping. The waiting will prolong the anxiety. They don’t do anything.
It’ll be the early hours of Saturday morning when you get a call by which time you may as well wait until 9am and go to a walk in centre. It’s such a passive but prolonging the worry thing to do.

have some water, and as another poster said put something on tv. The boy who cried wolf isn’t a real thing. Try not to catastrophise

I do feel like it will be wasting their time if nothing is wrong and I'll feel silly. I just can't shake the doom feeling. It's not like any anxiety I've had before and I've had anxiety and OCD since I was 18

Have a hot sweet drink op and have a little walk around your house, shake your arms out, shake it off and try to get some sleep.

GhostToast12 · 10/04/2026 22:16

@AlwaysAnxious32 well maybe don't call the GP tomorrow as it's Saturday. But Monday

But honestly I've had this. Shaking and shaking. Nothing bad ever happened. Nothing bad will happen to you either xxx

Hot drink. Hot water bottle, cuddly blanket. Trashy tv. I find these work for me.

Eat something as I feel very weird and get shaky inside when my blood sugar is low.

GenieGenealogy · 10/04/2026 22:16

Get your thyroid checked, an under active thyroid can cause you to feel very anxious and before I was medicated I was permanently frozen.

WonderingWanda · 10/04/2026 22:23

You might be coming down with something I had a whole day of feeling cold and achy, like I had the flue before I came down with norovirus.

MsGreying · 10/04/2026 22:23

Have you rung 111…?

They'll arrange a call back if you need it.

I think it's anxiety and when I'm anxious fresh air always helps, or worst case walking on the treadmill will also do, but you probably don't have one of those. The adrenaline needs to be released for you to be able to calm down, when your partner gets home can you walk up and down the street outside your house for a bit, and definitely get off Dr Google.

AlwaysAnxious32 · 10/04/2026 22:25

Dp is home and scolding me for being dramatic, a big baby etc.

I feel a bit silly just saying a sense of dread. I've started to ache really badly in my shoulders and just feel so cold and shaken. But I don't know if I'm making that happen to myself by panicking

That sounds like you might be sickening for something. I remember one Christmas being at a show with my family, and for some reason I felt so inexplicably snappy and irritable. I just couldn't understand why, as I'm usually fairly easy going. Later that day I was back home, lying on the bed, shivering and shaking uncontrollably and with terrible backache. I think we all went down with whatever it was, and needless to say, Christmas dinner was cancelled that year. 😅

Obviously, this may not explain your feelings, and I hope you don't get ill. 🤞

HJBeans · 10/04/2026 22:27

Another one with experience of health anxiety. What you are describing is exactly what has happened to me during anxiety attacks. These feelings will pass. You need support not scolding because it does feel awful, but you are safe. If you weren’t you would not be worrying about looking silly and asking online, you’d be acting - because us anxious folk are great at sensing danger and responding. I hope you feel better soon. Much empathy to you. Xx

OP, please eat and drink something. I get anxious when I am dehydrated and cold and anxious when I'm hungry. You're not taking WLI are you? Since I've been on them I don't get the normal hunger cues but get emotional signs instead.

Please also call 111 and explain to them factually what your symptoms are and then follow their advice.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on if you're able to.

Hollyhobbi · 10/04/2026 22:29

I had a condition called primary hyperparathyroidism. It causes a lot of symptoms including bone pain, high blood pressure and a host of others. But the one that scared me most was the feeling of impending doom. Turned out that the times I had this feeling worst were the times my phosphate and potassium levels were at their lowest, once they were 0.29 and 3.1 and I could have died only they took the right blood tests and I got IV replacements for them in A and E. Maybe get some blood tests done to check your calcium and if that’s high, your parathyroid hormone, phosphate and magnesium levels and your vitamin D.

Superhansrantowindsor · 10/04/2026 22:31

Sounds like a panic attack or you are getting the flu. You need to distract yourself. Try a book or puzzle. Listen to some music.

Agree. I am taking WLI and I have a really bad time 48hrs after injection with feeling completely overwhelmed. Today 48hrs later I had a pain in my jaw and convinced I had angina ! Definitely eat and drink 1litre of water every few hours.

Do Not Drink One litre of water every few hours! This is extremely dangerous and can lead to death!!!

Oh I meant more that I will get really angry or anxious (and cold) because I need to eat, but I don't actually feel hungry. Hope you're through the worst now!

How much is the loading dose of vitD? Little and often is far safer with a separate magnesium supplement to ensure absorption of vitamin D. I know about this due to having had hyperparathyroidism for years (one of the symptoms of it being low vitD)!

Water intoxication is a real thing. I suspect this PP meant eat every few hours and have a litre of water as a one off though
