DBS question (change of details)

Reposting, due to no responses.

I'm having a weird experience with the Update service, which I'm signed up to. I work with under 18s, so I'm not allowed to work without a DBS. I'd love to hear from anyone who processes these, or is in HR, as I currently don't know if I should trust my employer on this.

I moved house after being offered my current job, but over a month before I actually started the job. I was upfront with my employer about this and kept them fully updated.
I changed my name the following year.

Work are refusing to update my details, saying that as they were correct at the time of the job being offered to me, they are under no obligation to change anything.

I haven't received a copy DBS since this employer offered me the job, as DBS had my old address, and I struggled to update it online.

I have now signed into the Update service, and changed my address, but it won't let me change my name. I checked who has looked at my DBS, and according to that the last time it was checked was by my previous employer in 2021! I told my current HR Dept this, and was effectively told to stop being ridiculous, of course my DBS is in order or they would not have allowed me to start work.

I will phone the DBS helpline, but don't want to, if I am wrong.

I have a edbs for children under my maiden name. Married two years ago, and changed my surname. The dbs update service won’t let me change my name and the school I work at are happy that they have a copy of my marriage certificate at hand.
I am now in the process of obtaining an edbs adults and another for volunteers (why bother with an update service if no one will accept them?) both of these will be in my married name and asked for proof of both maiden and married name.
upshot is don’t worry about it so long as you have proof of the process you went through to change your name.

no one has even checked on the update service either, they all want to see the physical green original only. Again what’s the point of having the update service?

They can DBS you to ensure safe recruitment (btw - there is no role that absolutely requires a DBS, only roles that are eligible)...they don't need to update that necessarily. Though some employers do as best practice.

My work gave me two options. One option was to provide them with my marriage certificate which I chose to do. The other option was to reapply for a DBS under my new name.
