Help! Moving to London with SEN DC

Hello mumsnet

I am after some advice please. DC is 4 and has special needs. We don’t have any formal assessment, but he shows clear signs of autism.

We were abroad almost a year and we have to come back to the UK as my relationship with DH has broken down.

I am looking to move to London as it’s the best area for the job area I am in. West London would be best - probably Acton.

I need DC to be in school to be able to work. How would I go about enrolling him in school now? He probably will need 121 support as he does not talk etc.

Can anyone please offer some advice?

Are you thinking about a mainstream school or a special school? Either way it is highly likely that he would need an educational health care plan in order to receive much in the way of additional support. This is not a quick process. But what I would probably start with is looking on the council’s website for the area you are moving to and finding details of their special-needs department to contact to see how you could go about getting assessments done for your son.
