Luton Airport to London City Journey

How easy is it to get from Luton Airport to London City?
Is the train direct or do I have to change?

Haven't been to London for a long time and the last time I was there family collected us at the airport. I get a bit anxious if I don't have an idea of what I am doing before hand. Never was like this. I blame perimeno.

Anyway, I appreciate any information that anyone can give me.

It shouldnt take too long, about an hour and ten minutes.
If you download the Citymapper app it will should you your options.

The train station at Luton is called Luton Airport Parkway in case you don’t know this.

Also, you don’t need a ticket, you can just use your debit card or Apple/google pay.

It won’t be a direct journey. You can get the Thamelink into London and then will have to travel to London City on the tube. I think it stops at Farringdon doesn’t it? I’d probably get off there, get the Elizabeth Line over to Stratford and then the DLR to London City.

Whereabouts in London are you wanting to get to?

Saynototheinevitable · 09/04/2026 08:31

Did you mean London City Airprt or the city of London which are two different places altogether.

PrimaniTu · 09/04/2026 08:34

Plug the journey into Google Map and it will tell you the exact route. That’s the best thing you can do.

Depending on the time of day it will take roughly 1.5 hours.

Do you mean London City Airport, City of London (specific area), or just central London?
All are quite easy. Check train times because they vary a fair bit. There are some that are not much more than 20 mins straight to St Pancras.

WhereAreWeNow · 09/04/2026 08:42

If you need to get to City Airport, I would probably get train from Luton to St Pancras, then Circle line to Tower Hill, then DLR to City Airport. A bit of a faff but perfectly doable.

I meant Central London. Apologies

That's easy then. Train (EMR or Thameslink) from Luton Airport Parkway to St Pancras, you are then in central London and can take tube to wherever you need to go.

From the airport, you need to take the Luton Dart to Luton Parkway - this is basically a shuttle.
Then train to wherever you want to go to in Central London - St Pancras, Farringdon, etc.
It’s cheaper if you buy tickets in advance, especially if you are more than two people.

You can use a contactless bank card to tap in and out at the Dart shuttle and also on the train from Luton Airport Parkway into London. It’s around £18. The train goes through several different central London stations. At several stations it connects with the tube network.
