Has losing weight improved your life?

I am a generous size 12 so not very overweight but should definitely lose at least 6 kg or so to be considered “normal” weight and also a bit more to be in what I could consider a good shape for myself.
Have let myself go a bit in the past few months in terms of food and exercise and need some motivation. I am tired of clothes not fitting nicely, being ashamed of being in a bikini and not recognising myself in pictures.
How has weight loss improved all aspects of your life?

I look better, feel better, I stand taller and no longer try to shrink so I’m not noticed. I wear much nicer clothes.

I’m not constantly trying to pull a cardi, shirt, jacket around me to hide my bulging tummy. I don’t worry about my thighs spreading and looking fat when I sit down. I move better, I am more active, not so out of breath and can pick a cake in a cafe if I want without feeling people are judging me.

That said, I now have crinkly arm and leg skin, empty flat boobs and a saggy, wrinkly tum. I still feel better than I did when fatter though when I had a Buddha belly rolls when I sat down!

I feel healthy, confident, more alive! But I’m still a generous 12 on the bottom and a ten on top

I sleep better, have more energy, and can pick clothes off the rail in a shop and not vomit at the massive expanse of material needed for my size.

This is a very specific thing but I like quite high-necked tops and haven't been able to wear them for years because my face was a massive moon and my boobs were a shelf - I looked ridiculous. I can wear them again now and it's a look I genuinely like on myself.

Going from a 22 to a 14 has been life changing in the best way.

For my height/frame a 12 is probabaly the ‘ideal’ weight/BMI. But I don’t necessarily feel I’d be any happier if I lost that last bit.

I don’t think it’s the dress size/number on the scale that’s important, but if your weight is stopping you doing things you’d enjoy then that’s the issue.

Yeah but I lost 6 and a half stone. Down from 32 bmi to 2o. Been here well over a year now, I’m so much healthier, so much fitter, my hair is better, my skin is better, my body is toned, due to a lot of gym time, and I think it’s down to my heakfhy diet, water intake and reduced alcohol. also as my sleep apnea is gone I sleep a solid 7 or 8 hours a night.

I also like my appearance again and getting dressed, have loads of new clothes. Changed my style.

overall for me it’s been Amazing.

I’ve lost a decent chunk of weight in the past year (I don’t weigh myself due to a history of disordered eating) and it has just transformed my life in the best way possible.

I am so much happier - I can buy clothes based on what I want to wear rather than worrying about what is ‘flattering’ or stressing about my stomach. I can go for a run (did 12km today!) and it feels enjoyable - a year ago I would get out of breath walking up a small hill and need to take a break.

I feel so much more at home in my body - I used to feel quite removed from this - like my body and my brain were two separate entities. But now I have a new appreciation for what my body can do and it being a part of me and I am just so much happier as a result.

God yes, I lost 25kg (4 stone) and it changed my life.

All of the reasons above from PPs but the other big thing was having my photo taken. I used to avoid it at all costs but then there were the dreaded group shots that friends would post on FB, all I could see was a big fat girl trying to shrink into the background 😞 Now I'm at the front in the pics not having to worry about double chins 😁

Lost 2.5 stone some to go but lots of clothes in the wardrobe fit nicely again.

Dexterrr · 08/04/2026 20:01

The clothes! So much Vinted!
You have very little to lose really, so just think of the lovely clothes you'll be in for the summer ahead

Yes, I have PCOS and losing weight reduced so many of my symptoms. I also got pregnant! 💖
