If someone was visiting Japan for a short time, what would you ask them to bring back? Nothing crazy expensive!

Matcha tea kit kats

I love lacquerware, wash paper, obi belts - most Japanese arts in fact. They have excellent and very cheap second hand stuff.

I also love love their prawn crackers made with an actual grilled flattened prawn - delicious. You cannot ever get those here

The things which went down best when I went were ornate bookmarks and small bowls - though the latter didn’t reliably travel well - and honey hair oil. The food stuffs not so much unless for a mega foodie. The biggest things we love and brought back were all the charms you get from temples and shrines. I have them all over the house.

Very handy and cute foldable shopping bags from Don Quijote. Nice or fun chopsticks and chopstick holders. Red bean paste sweets/treats.

@Hopefulsalmon it's been 2.5 years since I visited and I still have PTSD from that bloody shop and their jingles 😂

Kitkats, chopsticks, gorgeous little bowls/plates, random..... possibly sweets.... novelty value more than anything as all the packing was obviously in Japanese so had no idea what things were, little bottles of plum wine....'umi chu' (?? Sure someone can help me out here).

Entirely understandable 🤣

Ooh mainly a fridge magnet (I’m easily pleased), but I’d gladly take all of what other posters I’ve suggested! 🤗

Bought Dd a hair ornament … to replace the pencil she usually uses to hold her messy bun in place.
