Theatre/Show recommendations for 13-year old daughter.

It’s my daughter’s 13th birthday coming up, and I’d like to take her to see a show, but London is a bit far for us, so am thinking of Manchester or Newcastle (we are in Scotland).

She’s seen Hamilton, Six & Matilda, all of which she loved.

Any recommendations?

More a case of what’s on in the area you want to go to.

Mrs Doubtfire
mama mia
mary Poppins

You want Sunderland empire in north east, I’d recommend legally blonde

Ooh just seen it’s on in Newcastle too but the theatre is much smaller. Operation mincemeat?

I agree you are looking at it the wrong way round. You need to look at what is on, in places you can more easily get to, then choose from those.
We can all list our favourite musicals, but if they aren't on where you can get to, that's no help.

Am also surprised there aren't nearer places than Manchester, if you live in Scotland. I know there are theatres in Scotland.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I’d like to turn it into a girls weekend away, stay in a nice hotel, hence looking outside of Scotland.

If you're thinking of Manchester, don't forget to add Liverpool and Salford (The Lowry) to your list.
There will be a number of shows touring this year, doing all the big venues, so I agree that you check out venues first.
Operation Mincemeat is fab, but has already been at The Lowry - also sells out quickly.

Single White Female is touring at the moment, I saw with friends but I have a 13 year old and it's definitely suitable.
Blood Brothers
And Juliet
Legally Blonde
Everyone's talking about Jamie

Have a look at Newcastle Theatre Royal to see if you fancy anything there. Legally Blonde, Annie and Barnum are playing this summer amongst others.

Don’t think Operation Mincemeat is suitable. She’s a bit young.

Noughts And Crosses is on at The Lowry later this month.

For Manchester, have a look at The Lowry, the Palace, the Opera House, Home and the Royal Exchange. (Stay in the city centre and get the tram to The Lowry. The others are in the city centre.)
