i just need to vent! And also wanted to post to make others aware it can and does happen!

Basically in June/July 2024 I had some procedures done linked to DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) in the midst of it all I developed bilateral DVT whilst having clexane injections twice a day, after emergency thrombolysis and more stents that went horribly wrong, I was told I was strictly zero hormones from that point onwards, I had to stop taking Norithisterone I was prescribed by my gynae consultant (due to not being allowed combined pill and constant heavy bleeding)
so I then became pregnant. It wasn’t a planned pregnancy, and due to my heath I couldn’t continue the pregnancy. I had to have a surgical termination done (wasn’t allowed the tablets) and I also had the copper coil put in at the same time- to prevent any more pregnancies.
This was November 13th 2024. At the end of December I had such a heavy bleed that it was literally putting out of me for 6 hours- I was passing clots the size of tennis balls- I called 111 and an ambulance came and got me and took me in- just to add in also on warfarin since my vein procedures.
I had been given the all clear a few days beforehand to now take hormones again but it was too late as had the copper coil in. The coil was still in place when hostel scanned me and could find no reason for such a big bleed. It finally settled on its own and I was allowed home. I then requested a gynae appt to get the coil out as although the bleeding calmed down, it never stopped, every single day I would be bleeding- more than spotting too.
in Feb 25 I finally got an appt and went and agreed to have the copper coil out and give the mirena coil a go. Though bev had such bad anxiety (one of my vascular procedures went very very wrong!) I needed it done under general anesthetic. Yes a bit much for such a small thing, but not to me. So- on the 13th of Feb I finally went in and had the copper IUD taken out and the mirena put in.
Ive been hopeful it may help my bleeding as every healthcare professional has been very confident it will- I just had to give it time to settle.
I’ve had a very light bleeding from then u till about 3 days ago. It got heavier- but still nowhere near as heavy as with the copper coil at its lightest!
This afternoon I went to the toilet. I felt something come out an assumed it was a blood clot (TMI sorry!) I have to monitor the size of them since my hospital visit in December 24,as I know what size is ‘normal’ ish- any bigger I need to monitor closely- I put a glove on, hooked it out and I don’t know wether to laugh or cry. A blood clot which is covering my mirena coil 😭 I have since actually cried. I give up. So I’ll be on the phone to the GP first thing Tuesday morning to get something else in place. No more coils for me!
It CAN and it DOES happen. Of course very rarely- but, of course, it had to happen to me didn’t it 🤦🏻‍♀️
I didn’t have any cramps/pain really, just a bit heavier blood loss which as I say, is actually light for me! Probably the average woman’s medium - heavy flow.
The only positive I can take from this is that I found it. Imagine I flushed and don’t bother to look. I’d en up pregnant again- I cannot ever go through that ever again, Im still not over the termination in November 2024!

just wanted to vent and like I say some awareness it can happen . Check those strings ladies!!!! 🥴🤦🏻‍♀️❤️

Welcome to my world.
Had a coil, fell out. Went and had another one. Went back again to check it was secure. Was given the green light.

Had a new partner. Still didn't trust it, so insisted he use condoms, and didn't tell him about the coil. He even said he could 'feel something different', and I just totally assumed he meant I was a bit anatomically different to his previous partner. (Doh!!)

Yeah, pregnant. My daughter is almost 20 now, never did find out what happened to the coil. Soooo jealous of people who insist that contraception is more or less failsafe, this is only a tiny proportion of my problems.

It seems more common than I thought. You always hear of a friends, aunties uncles brother sisters cats brothers pigeons nephews friend happening to them 🤣 but this is me, I should know better. I never thought I’d get a DVT, let alone 4! And all the complications that have been since including my IVC (main vein to your heart) rupturing- it never happens so I’m well known in the world of interventional radiology around the world 🤦🏻‍♀️ I never wanted a coil in the first place, but I had high hopes for the Mirena to help
with the bleeding side of things, and though I have bled almost every day since having it, it’s been minimal u till a few days ago. Seems to be failing off again now that the coil had been expelled.
I’ve heard of lots of pregnancies with the coil in situ.
it felt different 🥴🤣🤣 I bet it did! 😂 x
