Off chicken?

I did my Easter food shop on Wednesday. It was the only time I had to do it. Where I live, shops are closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday too, and I was working on Thursday and yesterday.

I bought a pack of two chicken breasts. The best date I could find was 5th April, today.

When I cooked them this evening they had a slight eggy smell. The pack had excess liquid in, that I had to drain before putting the back in the bin. That doesn’t normally happen.

I didn‘t think anything of it at the time but now I feel a bit worried. Do you think I‘m in for a date with the toilet?

Did they still have a smell when you cooked them
or was it just when you opened the packet?

Excess liquid can happen no matter how fresh they are I've found. Eating on the due date is expected, I do it all the time.

If it had a proper nasty sulphur type smell you'd have noticed. I think you'll be fine.
