Middle age (lighthearted)

What age is middle age? In my mums day 50 was considered middle aged, complete with an outfit of crimplene dresses! And shampoo and sets. think it is attitude. I have met 90 year olds with young minds and 20 year olds set in their ways.

Well if you live 80+ you have had good innings so 40-50 is technically middle age. How you feel in it varies massively

Somewhere north of 65. I am 64

I’m 60 next month and so technically definitely middle aged.
I love it. I’m working in a senior role in a job I love 4 days a week. My kids are all working and happy. All going well I will be a grandparent in the Autumn and I’m currently in the Sahara while doing a driving tour of Morocco including hot air ballooning, hiking in the High Atlas Mountains and the Dades Gorge and camel riding in the desert. So don’t be afraid of middle age 😀

60 is not middle aged... Unless you live to 120!

I think middle age is any where from 35 to 50 and that's if you live to 100 which most people dont...

@Twodogsonthecouch how marvellous. I hope you have a wonderful time. Have you done this trip before and would you recommend it?

FeelingSadToday1 · 05/04/2026 08:05

Surely middle aged is the middle of your life? So I’m mud 40’s so middle aged assuming I live to be 80’s plus?

I don’t think you have to feel a certain way though do you? I still dress quite trendy and don’t think I look my age. I had my last child later in life so have an almost 8 year old who keeps me young too

I’m 58 and don’t feel like I’m in late middle age. Seriously considering the whole shampoo and set tradition. Or shampoo and blow dry. Menopause hair is a beast.

It’s semantics really though, isn’t it. I think of it as a period in our life time between being young and being old rather that the midpoint of our lifespan.
Either way I think it doesn’t have to be defined as a particular lifestyle or style anymore where maybe it was in the past?
I’d be even more excited to think I could be living my current life in what would be old age if I’m too old to be middle aged 😂
