Me and DH are not. But the kids are so we’re taking them to a Steelers game. Both of his brothers and their partners are season ticket holders and they’re currently on holiday so have transferred their tickets to us so we can take the kids. My eldest has been to live games several times but this will be the youngest’s first!

Anyway, all BILs have really done is send the tickets. No idea what time we should get there or anything! I tried booking parking last weekend but it’s full so we have to park at Meadowhall in the designated overflow (it’s about a 25min walk apparently). Puck drop is at 4, what time should we get to the arena?

We’re a Steelers family! Have been going to matches about 10 years, although havn't made it this season due to various other commitments.

There is plenty of street parking round the back of the Arena, and quite a few local businesses open up their parking informally for a fiver too.

it’s really good fun. With stoppage time, breaks etc, you probably won’t be out much before 7pm.

I'm actually rather envious!

If you do park a MHall, you can get a tram to Valley Centertainment - 2 stops from MH, 1 stop from MH overflow car park. Or you could park at Nunnery Square P&R.

For puck drop at 4, I’d aim to be in the Arena by 3.30pm, if not earlier. 3 pm wouldn’t be too early really. It’s a good vibe anyway.

The Arena is cashless, so if you want to buy some extortionately priced chips, bring a card.

We usually park around Greenland Road.

We’ll be there anyway to be honest, DD needs new school shoes so that’s our cover for going out to Meadowhall 😁 DD currently has one of BILs jerseys in her bedroom so when everyone is in the car ready to go I’m going to ‘quickly nip to the loo’ and I’ll grab the jersey and some flags and hide them in my bag 😁 I can’t wait to see their faces when they realise what we’re doing!

The car park on Broughton Lane between Big Filla/ChaiWaller and The Noose & Gibbet pub opens up too. I’d get there by 3 to park.

Oh god I messed up. I don’t know how but I got the time wrong. It actually starts at 7 and now we have 3 more hours to kill 😩😩

Yes, but Vancouver so not helpful!

Craftysue · 04/04/2026 17:08

My boys have supported Coventry Blaze for many years and love ice hockey. They've been to Sheffield many times. Check out the website for start times. I'm sure they will love it - and the tickets are very reasonable normally

The first hockey match DH and I went to was Canucks, when we were on holiday in Vancouver.

Panthers all the way. Have a great time

Which year did you go?

We're a Glasgow Clan supporters here. I'm sure you'll have a great time! It's a lot of fun to watch live hockey.

Inspired by this thread (and my general love of all things sports from the sidelines) I'm going to see the Haringey Huskies at Alexandra Palace tonight 😄

Oh my gosh it was so much fun! After my fuck up on the times we ended up driving an hour back home, getting a quick bite to eat and drove the hour back. I feel awful, especially how diesel prices have skyrocketed 😬 We ended up parking back at Meadowhall, there was a funfair on in the car park of the arena so by the time we tried to find parking closer, everywhere was rammed.

Anyway, we all ended up having fun! Even curmudgeon DH who didn’t even want to go, he only agreed to go for the kids, he joined in with all the chants and he did the “Whoosh it’s behind you!” Chant and dance every time we scored 🤣 (8 times btw, we slaughtered the Clan, sorry @8TinyToeBeans 😁) he begrudgingly admitted that it “Wasn’t as bad as he’d thought it would be.” He bought both kinds of raffle tickets AND did Chuck-a-puck for the kids. DS(7) absolutely LOVED it! He didn’t stop moving the whole time. I’m not sure BIL will get away with only taking DD(14) to matches now 🤣

I can’t really say we’re fans (yet) but we did really enjoy it and would definitely go again if the opportunity arises.

I loved it too even though the Haringey Huskies lost (but put up a good fight at 4:5) ! It was so much fun!! 🤩 Ice hockey is so much more fun to watch in person than football I found. The atmosphere was great and it's such an intense game

Would have been 2003.
