Bathroom smells weird - top ‘fresh’ smells required please

We’ve not long moved house and we’re still getting used to it and learning its ways.

One of the things I can’t get used to is the smell of the bathroom. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s not a uriney smell. It’s not a damp smell. It’s just an innate weird smell. I’ve cleaned and cleaned. I’ve used an enzyme cleaner round the toilet, but I don’t think it’s the toilet that smells anyway. The room will smell of the cleaning products for a while but when they wear off it has its old smell back.

We had a new extractor fan fitted not long after we moved in because the old one died.

Any ideas? Any recommendations for reed diffusers that smell nice and ‘clean’?

Geranium essential oil in a little bit of water is my favourite fresh, clean fragrance in the bathroom. If you have a Gu pot (ours seems to breed in the cupboard) put a little water and essential oil in that and pop on top of the bathroom cabinet for a few days

Have you checked the hair trap in the shower drain? That was the source of our "funny bathroom smell".

I'd try some heavy duty drain cleaner down all the plug holes. There's probably a load of old hair and ginger festering down there.

Thanks everyone! You know what, I reckon the hair trap might be it @Crikeyalmightey and @QueenStevie 🤮 ours seems to be fixed (and really tarnished). Don’t think I can get it out so will have to try one of those drain snakes. Or DH will because I will throw up everywhere at the sight of pubes and skin clumps.
