PSA: check your toes!

I did not and nearly came a cropper.

Was walking around today and thinking: that's weird, my fourth toe is painful. First I thought it was my sock seam so adjusted that. That didn't help so I fucked around with my trainer tongue. Still no use.

Finally I got back to my car and took my shoe and sock off. There was a line around my fourth toe which first off I thought was a sock seam line, but then I rubbed it and realised it wasn't. It was a hair, wrapped around my toe! The toe above the line was bright red.

I sort of scratched at my toe till I got a break in the hair, then unwound it. Not quite instant relief - it took a good few hours for the toe to feel and look normal.

On googling, apparently people can actually lose their toes from this. Like it's a serious thing. Admittedly mostly for babies, but from today's experience also for dummies like me who don't realise.

Don't let this be you!

I remember reading if a baby can't be settled to check their toes for a hair tight around them!

When my daughter was a toddler I checked on her when I went to bed, and one of her fingers was a purple-grey colour and really swollen. I used nail clippers to get the hair free. I dread to think what would’ve happened if I hadn’t noticed.
