Why do headline scandals in broadcasting so often involve men?

The latest scandal is Scott Mills, but over the years we have had Greg Wallace, Huw Edwards, Rolf Harris, Jimmy Savile, and probably more I've forgotten.
I can't remember when a female caused a scandal, at the BBC or anywhere which hit headline news. Why is it always men?

Because it's usually to do with sex.
Would have thought that's obvious.

BillieWiper · 01/04/2026 17:20

Because men are more likely to be paedos or pervs? The ones you get about women are things like Naga shouting at someone over the wrong amount of marmite. Not grooming and potentially SAing underage kids.

Snorlaxo · 01/04/2026 17:21

Most sex offenders are men.

Senmum2026 · 01/04/2026 17:22

There are more male broadcasters than women but more signifigantly men are much more likely to commit sexual crimes than women.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 01/04/2026 17:23

Male dominated industry where fame and the power of fame play a role.

AgnesMcDoo · 01/04/2026 17:25

Kaye Adam’s recently sacked from BBC Scotland for decades of nasty behaviour

but mostly it’s men because it’s about power, bullying or sexual harassment

ButterBastardBeans · 01/04/2026 17:30

Cos mens have the constant sexual desire thing going on and seem to think that although they know it's wrong/illegal/harmful, they either don't care or think they are brighter than the ones that got caught an will get away with it.

Women are just not as damn stupid.

GrueyTwoey · 01/04/2026 17:32

You really have to ask this?

SlipperyLizard · 01/04/2026 17:35

Have you not met many men?

powershowerforanhour · 01/04/2026 17:38

Well it's not just broadcasting is it? Films, sports coaches, religious institutions, politicians, royalty, etc etc ad nauseam

Men, on average

  • have more power
  • are more arrogant
  • are far and away the rapey- er sex

It would be astonishing if they weren't responsible for most of the scandals

Treylime · 01/04/2026 17:41

Seriously! Because it's the same as society in general

lemonraspberry · 01/04/2026 17:43

More men are employed in the sector
The male ego is a powerful thing & make them think they are untouchable, especially when it comes with power
Most sex crimes are committed by men

bluejelly · 01/04/2026 17:50

SlipperyLizard · 01/04/2026 17:35

Have you not met many men?

😁

ginasevern · 01/04/2026 17:51

Because 99% of all sex crimes are committed by men. And the ones that aren't actually criminally inclined are viewing other people's bodies in a sexual light.

coralshow · 01/04/2026 17:51

Do you know of men?

JohnTheRevelator · 01/04/2026 17:53

Firstly because it's a male dominated industry. And secondly, anything involving sex or perversion is much more likely to involve a man. As a previous poster said,99% of all sex crimes are committed by men.
