Video games for children

I’ve got a nephew who’s almost 8. He likes video/phone games and used to be allowed to play them on his mum’s phone. My mum thinks they’re bad and he shouldn’t be allowed them. When he went for a play date recently the other child played video games all the time (his dad let him) and my nephew was upset as he didn’t know how to play them.

So yes or no? Do you agree with them or not? If not why not? If yes, why?

Yes if age appropriate and time limited per day. Gaming and tech is life now and as long as kids are well behaved and have a balanced day/week with exercise, learning etc then it’s like anything else.

I don’t agree with kids playing games that are violent or contain older material such as porn/crime. But that’s down to parenting.

Just ensure the device is locked down with no access to others; has appropriate safety measures and passwords etc. most devices allow you to set a screen time and you can manage and monitor that.
