Is it normal to be asked about periods and C section during ultrasound

I had an ultrasound recently to check for pcos. As I’ve not had my period recently since a few months ago. But the person doing the scan asked if I’ve had a period recently and a c section. I did say I have had a c section but no period since December. Is it normal for them to ask? She also asked if I wanted an internal scan and if I’ve had a scan before.

I'm not sure about the c-section question, but the others all seem normal.

Sounds normal. Depending where you are in your cycle will change how your uterus looks on the scan so it would help them to know.
And an internal scan can be quite invasive so stands to reason they would check first!

the c-section question might be because of scar tissue but they don't sound like unreasonable questions given the nature of the scan!

Of course it is.

bothe questions are related to the current issue and it’s important to get a complete history.

if they don’t know you’ve had a c-section they might see something that looks abnormal off you’ve haven’t had a section. They need to know where you are in your cycle to assess endometrium thickness etc.

internal scan gives a different perspective, of course you would be asked for consent! And if you’ve had a scan before gives an idea of where you are with a diagnosis.

why would you think they shouldn’t be asking these questions?

These sound like normal, relevant questions

GreyCarpet · 30/03/2026 15:55

Why do you think they weren't relevant?
