Anyone had a 'feeling' like this in their breast?

I think I'm overthinking this but I'm sure others have probably had this too!
I have 30JJ boobs, so lumps and bumps are pretty normal for me, random pains and twinges etc.
Last week I noticed a dull ache type pain at the top of my right boob, just an inch or so away from my armpit, and I'm 80% sure I found a small hard bump as I managed to pinpoint the same feeling on two separate days. When I started poking around it got sore, everytime I try and find the bump again it's painful.

So the pain reassured me its probably a cyst, at first! Google said pain is rare but doesn't rule anything out for sure, especially when it doesn't go away.

Obviously the answer is to go to the GP but it says online to monitor it for 2-4 weeks first and see what happens, so whilst I wait, has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Yes I did and I went to the GP. Booked in for a mammogram and ultrasound within 2 weeks and they gave me the all clear. Don’t mess about with this, go to your GP. You either need the peace of mind that it’s nothing, or if it’s something you need treatment quickly. Don’t put it off.

I agree with PP not to wait , it probably is a cyst if it moves but I wouldn’t wait for a couple of weeks . The appointment could take a few days to set up to get you for a scan , you can always mention that you have actually monitored it for a couple of weeks if the surgery asks you to do this just to get seen .
I would definitely push for an appointment though .

Please get checked out. This happened to me and it turned out to be DCIS.

@middlenglander I'm sorry to hear this, I hope you received the best possible care to get well again!
I hope you don't mind me asking, and you don't have to respond but did you have any other symptoms?

@Brightbluesomething I'm only 30, can I have a mammogram? Sorry if that's a really silly question! How old were you if you don't mind me asking?

@Dontgoforward you won’t get invited to a routine mammogram until you’re 50 and I’m under that age too. If you have symptoms they’ll examine you when you see your GP and mine sent me for one just to be sure as I had most of the indicators to need one. As I had pain too they did an ultrasound. It was a cyst which resolved a couple of weeks afterwards. Age isn’t an issue it’s the symptoms that they’ll look at.

anonocakey · 30/03/2026 20:26

Due to your age you may be offered ultrasound and or MRI which are more sensitive for younger women.

BetweenAppointments · 30/03/2026 20:36

Defo get it checked out. Don’t let them fob you off without getting an ultrasound on the lump.

I found a lump, it was cancer. The odds are it won’t be (only a small % of breast lumps are cancerous). Worth ruling it out!

TokenGinger · 30/03/2026 20:38

I found a lump a few months ago. I was referred on the two week pathway, seen 5 days after my GP appointment and given the all clear the same day. Don’t wait four weeks.

I just had pain in the breast - which I put down to menstrual breast pain. The DCIS was only found on a routine mammogram. Please don't worry - it will all be OK.

MeganM3 · 31/03/2026 08:51

I had something similar. It was some residue in my breast (in the pipes?) left over from breast feeding. Some milk had hardened and I had a sort of funny feeling, not exactly sore but just something.
GP appointment then referral to the breast unit at local hospital for examination. I think it was a couple of weeks between the two appointments, if that.

Thank you everyone for replying!
I did see the doctor today, after this thread! Due to my lovely youthful age, the lump isn't a 'lump' shape so doesn't seem suspicious I am to watch and watch for a couple of weeks and see if it resolves.
I admittedly didn't feel very reassured on departure, but the GP was genuinely lovely and kind so fingers crossed it just goes away
