Constant viruses - fed up.

anyone else just constantly ill at the moment?

since Xmas I’ve had a flu with a sinus infection and losing my voice, took 4 weeks to get my voice back was sick for two whole weeks.

hit again within a couple of weeks with fever, an ear infection, nasty sore throat again and losing my voice. This took a few weeks to get back to normal.

I just about recovered from that and got another virus with fever that developed into a chest infection.

Then there was a 24 hour thing with vomiting.

now I’m struck again with another sore throat, runny nose, headache and fever.

I’ve never been this run down and constantly catching bug after bug.

I’ve had blood tests and addressed deficits (B12 and iron) and have been on those for months, well before I’ve gotten ill so levels are really good. I eat well, exercise, am overweight but it’s going down. I feel generally well most of the time and have an active life/social life

totally puzzled why I’m being so badly hit with every bug. Ready to move to an island away from everyone because I’m so fed up of it!

anything else I can do to avoid then next plague? 😭

Yes- I’ve been unwell basically since end Feb. Tend to get a bug and not be able to get rid for months but I have cfs which I think messes your immune system up and body doesn’t recover as well. Stress can also mess up your immune- have you been particularly stressed? Have a stressful job or caring for someone?

I don’t think there is a quick fix. Drinking lots water is good fortune sore throat etc. And rest!

If you don’t recover you may need antibiotics in case you have an infection that is bacterial?

I don’t think mine are viruses per se but I have felt shit all year with one thing or another. Had periods of really bad IBS which I think could be linked to my cycle and potentially the start of peri. A few weeks back a horrendous sore throat which when I looked was caused by a huge mouth ulcer at the back of my throat which took ages to go. I’ve had a bad back and sore legs. Feel like I’m never quite 100% and im too busy to not be functioning at full capacity so much of the time. Gah.

That might be where you are going wrong. In today's busy world we forget to stand still and let our body fully heal. There's a reason we used to have convalescent homes. Maybe cut out the active social life for a bit to recharge, just because you feel better doesn't mean you actually are.

Covid knackers your immune system so if an early virus was that then that could explain why the others have piled in after it. Or you just haven't shifted one of them.

This winter (actually the whole academic year) has been just the worst for illness. We’ve all had a horrendous cold/flu thing lasting two weeks, then I got another one a few weeks later and my sinuses are still
blocked. My dd is on her fifth cold since Christmas and ds currently has a fever. Also norovirus circulating amongst friends for the second time. It’s just one thing after another and we’re all fed up of it!

Oh believe me I am resting too! I’m taking my time with healing. The last bout of illness I didn’t leave the house for a week (holiday) I’m currently taking a planned work break and I’m living off my savings - no stress here.

by active I mean - I talk to people, I’m not festering or lonely as that can leave you prone to illness too.

Yes the Xmas bug could’ve been covid as it was a horrible rolling fever for around 3/4 days and then I got the sinus infection and another fever 3 days later. I was wiped out over Xmas.

that would explain the current immune issues. I’m just so annoyed with it. I want to be well an get my 1/2 colds a year again.

I think it’s a virus this time. My GP sends me to the pharmacy for antibiotics which is a faff when you’re sick and I’d rather not take them as they wipe out your gut bacteria then I get an iffy bowel for a few weeks

Yes, I could have written your post nearly word for word. I'm coming to the end of month 8 of bugs/viruses. I'm like a 1-year-old off to nursery for the first time. But the first one that kick started this was COVID and my life has been very stressful. I keep thinking 'surely this one will be the last one and then I'll be okay for a while' but it hasn't happened yet.

I was sick for 4 months last spring and it turned out I had a bacterial infection in my lungs. Unfortunately being sick for so long has left me with cfs (long covid symptoms). I’d take the antibiotics and lots of probiotics!

Fair enough. So many people return to work before being fully healed, or go drinking/late night parties or burn the candle at both ends, and then wonder why they get sick again so quickly. I hope you turn the corner soon OP.

It's a bad year for Covid, I think, and Norovirus. We've been same as you here in Canada. Avoiding others who are ill, staying home when sick yourself, masking when necessary, all the usual protocols are all we can do, really.

Tell me about it!

in my last job I had parents sending kids in with flu. The parents were really sick but still sending the kids to school! Glad I left that job.

Yep. I’m trying to do that. I wish other would as well. Every time I think I’m turning a corner some dirty fuck coughs all over me without covering their mouth 🤮
