This is a smoking appreciation thread for traditional tobacco (please no vapes). Pipes, holders, roll ups and cigars.

Anyone still enjoy a good smoke?

Who exactly do you think you are?

This is a thread on a public forum and other posters are allowed to post their views even if you don't like them.

It beggars belief that MN are allowing a thread which is openly promoting smoking. And you trying to silence posters trying to counteract the smoking apologists on the thread says a lot about smokers.

openly promoting smoking
You do know smoking isn't actually illegal don't you 😂

I've not smoked for over 20 years and don't plan to start again but reminiscing about a Marlboro light on a Monday morning is harmless enough imo.

Jasmin71 · 30/03/2026 12:20

My absolute favourite is Vanilla tobacco rolled in green rizzlas.

HalfColdCoffee · 30/03/2026 12:21

Farewelltothatid · 30/03/2026 11:58

Yes it is my business.
My mother died of throat cancer directly due to her smoking habit.
I've moved house twice because of cigarette smoke ingress from neighbour's houses.
Smoking is a habit which affects the whole of society and people promoting it as something good is ridiculous and dangerous

Sorry for your loss, but your mother’s throat cancer doesn’t give you the right to tell anyone else off regarding their own choices 🙄

My point is, you don’t get to decide what’s right and what’s wrong, you can apply your own standards to your own life, but you don’t get to dictate to others.

Originally came here to say, I miss the good old days, quit 12 years ago and I really appreciate the smokers on the outside of pubs so I can smell it on the way past!

The sooner it is illegal the better.

The fact you are still thinking about smoking 20 years later is indicative of how addictive it is.

Why ? Is it illegal ?

Fond memories of DFs one treat at Christmas which was a cigar.

Nourishinghandcream · 30/03/2026 12:26

Never been a smoker but just LOVE the smell of a cigar or a pipe.
Another gorgeous smell is the smell of a good old fashioned tobacconist. Add to that the gentle clink of the lid on a heavy, ceramic tobacco jar.

Yes, of course we all know that smoking is bad for you (which is precisely why I have never done it) but it does not take away the fact that some forms of tobacco smell lovely.😁

Devilsmommy · 29/03/2026 23:45

Finally, I was starting to think I was the only smoker on here😅I'm a very heavy smoker, love my roll ups in my liquorice rizlas😁 weird because I fucking hate liquorice but I can't seem to taste tobacco properly in a normal rizla🤷

I use liquorice papers too, but can't seem to taste it after a while. I'm currently decanting tobacco into a Kilner jar and adding vanilla pods. It's lovely Smile

I'm not telling anyone they can't smoke.

I am questioning the glamorousing and promotion of smoking as a " good thing".

Advertising of cigarettes and smoking is banned for a good reason.

So OP starting a thread promoting smoking as something to be admired goes against the whole ethos of trying to dissuade people that a filthy habit that kills not only the smoker but those who breathe in the fumes is something good.

Lifestooshort71 · 30/03/2026 12:45

MOH is 69 next week and has smoked cigs since he was 14. He's tried to give up many times (but only to please me not cos he wants to!) and has, of course failed so that's that. I don't mind it actually but there are house rules 😁. I used to go to Spurs as a teenager with my Dad (who smoked) and the bloke behind us had a pipe that smelled heavenly, I used to get whiffs of the same baccy years later and it would take me back instantly!! Happy times with my Dad (this would have been in the 60s, the Glory Days ⚽️).

I think there's a difference between 'promoting' or 'advertising' smoking, and a thread that is clearly aimed at existing smokers. OP isn't saying 'Hey, why not take up smoking - tips here for getting started'.

So I'm not the only one who doesn't even taste the liquorice 😅 I wouldn't like adding flavour like that to my tobacco because I like a strong harsh taste😁 when I see those sales reps in shops giving away samples of vape juice or those nicotine pouches you pop under your tongue I always reply to them with sorry but I'm an actual smoker and I love a proper roll up. There's just no point to vaping or pouches in my opinion 😒

murasaki · 30/03/2026 12:53

Totally. I tried a mate's coffee and tobacco flavoured vape once. No thanks, i'll have a coffee and a rollie.

In fact I think I'll do that now.

DisqueBleu · 30/03/2026 12:54

My first serious girl friend used to bring a pack of cocktail cigarettes (coloured papers) on a special date. I preferred Black Russian.

Not smoked for 25 years, I used to smoke roll ups with brown liquorice paper in recent years.
Maybe a pipe in my last years.

I'm really sorry to hear about your mother. Unfortunately, being a non-smoker doesn't always guarantee a better outcome. Both my parents were anti-smoking, having been born in the early 1940s when smoking was very popular.

They are now in their 80s, and physically reasonably healthy, but they both have dementia. My mum is completely incontinent and no longer knows who I am. My dad is confused and aggressive. They can no longer enjoy anything, their world has become small and disorientating.

Had it been up to me to choose their end of life - full appreciate it absolutely is not - I would rather have seen them go at a younger age from a smoking related illness, than descend into the chaotic hell that is now their life.

I'm not, of course, trying to say that your mother's experience was any better or seeking to minimise it, just that it isn't as simple as - don't smoke = have long and happy old age - there are lots of nuances.

Bjorkdidit · 30/03/2026 12:57

On our last holiday before Covid, so would have been December 2019 I think, there was a Russian woman in our Scuba diving group who smoked a pipe between dives. I've never smoked but for some reason I found it fascinating.

HardFuckingBird · 30/03/2026 13:01

DH and I share a cigar about once a month. I am fully aware of the risks, but it's a lovely little routine - we put our phones down, sit in the garden, and really talk to one another. And yes, we can, and sometimes do, manage that without nicotine - but it's a nice shared experience.

Llamamaman · 30/03/2026 13:02

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 29/03/2026 21:57

I'm on the roll ups now, and love a cigar! I've decided when I hit 50 I'm going to start smoking a pipe. It'll probably kill me, but I enjoy it.

If you smoke there’s a 50% chance that’s what will cause your death so a good chance

Edited

This thread is not promoting smoking.
You've come on this thread with a nasty attitude lecturing and moralising about the evils of smoking and 2nd hand smoke, there's just no need.
People are talking mostly about memories that are invoked by the smell of tobacco.
We all know how dangerous smoking is and what its doing to people's health but we have free will and people will do unhealthy things like smoking, drinking, drug use and/or poor diet and exercise so no need to lecture.
I have 1 question for you since vehicle exhaust fumes are more harmful than 2nd hand smoke should we ban all petrol/diesel vehicles or would that be to far for you

With respect that is utter nonsense.

The reason I still think about smoking 20 years after I stopped is because the memory it is tied up with carefree, heady days of my youth. Also, I enjoyed it fgs. I have no desire to smoke again.

I also occasionally think about an ex who 30 years ago was an energetic and sexy lover.
I'm not addicted to him either. I'm happily married. Sometimes I think about how I used to dance till my legs ached and then stagger home to sober up 😂

It's just reminiscing, a fleeting thought that gives you pleasure and nothing more ☺️

Goldenboysmum · 30/03/2026 13:21

I gave up smoking in 2018, so I could do the Moonwalk (realised I couldn't train and smoke so one had to go!)

Started again in 2020 when my son died

Would I give up again? no way, life is too short to give up things I enjoy and we
all die anyway, so may as well try to enjoy what existence I have left and if smoking shortens my life, well that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned, I've had enough already!

Do I have any smoking related conditions, not yet, but I'm almost housebound with arthritis!

And on a lighter note, I love Golden Virginia rollies😀

BTW Im in my 60s and smoked since I was 17, except for the 18months or so I gave up

DisqueBleu · 30/03/2026 13:32

Blimey! I just checked the price of tobacco: St Bruno (pipe) 50g £27.00
Is that about £4 per pipe. Not now thanks.

I'm sorry about your parents.

My mother took up smoking long before the health implications were widely known- during the second world war when smoking was encouraged as " helping the war effort". When I was young she was concerned enough about her smoking -even though at that point she smoked only 5 a day - only to be laughed at by her doctor and told " that's not smoking".
She didn't have an easy death - is any death by cancer easy? And i don't think comparing devastating illnesses and deaths and saying one is less bad than the other, or easier , is helpful.

The point about smoking is that the link, not only with cancer, but other health conditions such as heart disease , are so well known that to make the choice to actually smoke an invitation to ill health and poor quality of life.

Of course not smoking doesnt guarantee a healthy or long life but why deliberately do something that harms yourself? And what's more harms other people . It's the sheer selfishness of smokers that is so bewildering.

Like I said earlier, this thread isn’t for you, go and be bewildered somewhere else, other people’s choices aren’t yours to police.

There are many things that I don’t understand why other people would chose to do, but I don’t stand in judgment of them or appoint myself in a position of superiority.

I’m am ex smoker, but look back with nostalgia, came here to discuss that - not expecting to receive judgement and criticism from someone who should have scrolled on. 👋

That's also what I'm doing now😁 I like proper tasting tobacco. If I wanted a sweet flavour I'd buy some sweets thanks😂

Fireside10 · 30/03/2026 14:10

I love pipe it smoke reminds me of my great grandad, it's rare I ever get a whiff these days but whenever I do I get the urge to run out and buy some fruit pastilles (his favourite treats!)

My first 'job', when I was five was dusting ashtrays out with a paint brush in my grandparents pub for a bottle or pop and a packet of crisps. How things change 😂
