Mildly amusing parking thread (with diagram!)

I've been at home all day, doing chores etc, and there is a mildly amusing parking situation. Slow burn, unlikely to be any exciting updates.

Opposite my flat is a row of 7 parking spaces, closely bounded by a spiky hedge. There are numbered spaces for various flats, and one visitor space in the middle. People are generally very good about using their own space, if there's a trades van in the 'wrong' space for a while, people don't mind.

This morning at 11.30am I noticed there was an estate car (red rectangle) parked longways across 3 spaces. I have lived here more than 20 years and never seen anyone park like that before.

Some of the other spaces were/are empty, so it wasn't immediately an issue, but still quite weird.

At 3.45pm I saw that a car (yellow rectangle) had been parked longways next to it. Very closely. You certainly couldn't open the driver's door, which is on the side away from the hedge, and a slim person might be able to get in the passenger side, but they would get quite well poked by the spiky hedge.

At the moment red car could get out by reversing carefully towards the van. I'm very tempted to ask my neighbour who owns the van if he wants to move it one space over, into the visitor space.

Red car might be abandoned, or the owner might be away for the weekend, or I may look out tomorrow morning and find that they've both gone. But I thought the MN parking watchers might enjoy it.

What a beautiful diagram!

BungledBundle · 28/03/2026 16:53

How strange! And do you not recognise either red or yellow rectangle cars?

SauvignonBlanche · 28/03/2026 17:01

How peculiar!

Catcatcatcatcat · 28/03/2026 17:09

Can’t you move your car into the visitor space?

10/10 for the diagram

Morepositivemum · 28/03/2026 17:11

Another that is impressed with the diagram. What a cf the red car owner is, yellow car maybe hoping to catch out the red car owner

StormyLandCloud · 28/03/2026 17:14

Brilliant 🤩

Thepossibility · 28/03/2026 17:20

Gold star for that diagram! -grabs popcorn-

Itiswhysofew · 28/03/2026 17:21

Do you recognise the yellow vehicle?

Diagram is exemplary 🌟

GotTheCollyWobbles · 28/03/2026 17:24

That’s really strange!
Do you recognise the yellow rectangle? Is it a neighbour trying to block the red rectangle, or is it a second completely random car?

ILoveDaffodills · 28/03/2026 17:25

I wonder if the red car owner was trying to reserve the space for a removal truck or something.

have you checked if it has an MOT?

itsgettingweird · 28/03/2026 17:26

Best diagram yet! ⭐️

How odd of the red car. There’s most so queer as folk!

I'm guessing the yellow car is making a point?!

TrendingTerror · 28/03/2026 17:29

Been on here over 20 years! Def the best diagram EVER. Well done OP ;)

GreenTinsel · 28/03/2026 17:44

Both cars are still there.

I don't recognise red car. Yellow car belongs to one of the flats of the three spaces red is parked across.

Both cars are taxed and MOTd.

I thought about parking my car in the visitor space, but it's a company car and I don't want to risk any damage from red's owner.

Excellent diagramming

ApolloandDaphne · 28/03/2026 17:47

Fabulous diagram.

JustAboutHangingInThere · 28/03/2026 17:48

I reckon it’s an error by driver of the red car, thinking it’s a lay-by type space. My friend did that once. I think yellow is being a bit daft by blocking red in.

I agree, beautiful diagram, top marks!

Isobel201 · 28/03/2026 17:51

The car being taxed and insured doesn't make any difference on private land - it could be declared sorn and they can still park there.

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/03/2026 18:00

This should be in Classics for the diagram alone.

MrsTravelBug · 28/03/2026 18:17

The diagram is a thing of beauty! I predict red was trying to reserve the spaces maybe for a skip or something.

If red's eyesight is that bad they can't see the lines marking the spaces, they definitely shouldn't be driving!

I hope they all have a Whatsapp group and that it's all going off!

Barbequebeans64 · 28/03/2026 20:18

Is it still there?

GreenTinsel · 28/03/2026 21:35

Red is still there, yellow has gone

GreenTinsel · 28/03/2026 23:14

Aaaaaand, yellow is back, parked right next to red again

This is the kind of nosey, slightly petty stuff I really enjoy in the background of my life 😅 Keep us updated 🚘🚖
