Looking after a baby whilst sick myself!

On Monday I had a fever & body aches all day, then by the evening I came down with diarrhoea which I’ve still got now. The cramps I’m getting are awful and my stomach feels so sore! I don’t have a fever or body aches anymore and I’m trying to stay hydrated with electrolytes but I’m also breastfeeding a very hungry baby so having plain toast isn’t really cutting it!

I went to the GP yesterday who took books and a stool sample, there is a tiny bit of bright red blood but she said that’s from trauma from going to the toilet so much!

Has Anyone experienced similar? I just want this to pass 😭 being ill and breastfeeding is so tough!

OP, it will pass! The trouble with being a mother is that there’s no time off for good behaviour! Do you have anyone who can give you a hand while you’re unwell? It’s tough breastfeeding when you’re feeling terrible. Many moons ago I did it with twins - felt like I was dying. But you do get better and it really isn’t for long in the great scheme of things, even though each day feels like a year at the time. Good luck, and sympathy, OP.

Oh, poor you. It will pass. This is the hardest bit of mat leave / being a SAHP - no sick leave.

You went to the GP for diarrhoea? 🙄

Yes considering there is blood and I’m a lot of pain. Plus the risk of dehydration when I’m also breastfeeding. Keep your judgements to yourself.

It’s rubbish but you’ll get through it, everyone does. Hope you’re better soon. By breastfeeding your baby is much less likely to catch it so that’s one good thing.
