What do you generally wear to the gym?

I’m at quite a trendy gym and feel like only one of a few people who don’t wear super tight hot pants and a bra style top to the gym. I don’t want people ogling me or to look like I’m going to a pole class instead of the gym.

Equally though, I think wearing my old scruffs perhaps means I don’t feel my best either. I guess I’d like a middle ground but would be interested to know what others are wearing as I feel like the only one who doesn’t want 80% of my body on show most of the time!

Leggings and a sports tshirt

Chasingsquirrels · 27/03/2026 23:03

I've recently started going, but it is a clinic gym in a cancer treatment centre - so not exactly full of fitness bunnies.

I wore loose summer trousers & a t-shirt at first, and have since got a couple of pairs of gym leggings (only £10 ones from Tu) which I wear with a t-shirt.

Wear what you feel comfortable in, you are going to exercise not to partake in a fashion parade.

leggings and a t shirt. Hot pants snd a bra top would not be appropriate at my age 🤣

Gym leggings and a loose fit racer back vest

ExperiencedTeacher · 27/03/2026 23:12

Leggings and a t shirt. Need a vest. Im not a hot pants and bra kinda girl!

aperollingintotheweekend · 27/03/2026 23:16

Good to know I’m not the only one who isn’t into it.. I don’t remember it ever being a thing before. Assume it’s due to social media and posting everything online.. I see full faces of makeup, fully done up and it just feels so out of place to me.

i would like to feel a bit smarter though for myself. I usually have leggings and trainers which aren’t too bad but my top half is the sort of T-shirts I wear to bed or to do DIY at home 😅

M and S good move T-shirts and leggings. I like having specific gym stuff but I am not going to win any fashion prizes!!

JaneGrint · 27/03/2026 23:20

Leggings and a loose t-shirt.

TommorrowsToday · 27/03/2026 23:22

Sweaty Betty leggings (3/4 length), sports bra, loose fitting sport back vest (Good Moves, M&S).

PicklePalace · 27/03/2026 23:23

i wear fabletics gym leggings and t shirts and hoodies. Get it all for a good price on Vinted

Creepybookworm · 27/03/2026 23:27

Leggings and a long sports top which covers my bum.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/03/2026 07:30

Shorts and a vest.

I'll run (outside) in a crop top, but don't really want my bare back sticking on to the plasticy seats.

Britpopbaby · 28/03/2026 09:33

Lulullemon leggings
Sweatty Betty top
H&M leggings
H& M top
All charity shop buys.

Bombombomtralala · 28/03/2026 09:40

I don’t want people ogling me or to look like I’m going to a pole class instead of the gym.

Are you ogling others in the gym?

I wear different things depending on what I’m doing/ what’s clean. It’s about comfort and practicality for me.

For classes it’s shorts and cropped top just like a pole dancer because I get hot.
For the gym it’s leggings and a vest.

TheChosenTwo · 28/03/2026 09:42

I just wear my trusty SB leggings and a sports tshirt (a regular shape for a tshirt but good sweat wicking material). I don’t like wearing shorts or vests or crop tops either. Plenty at my gym do but I’m not comfortable in so few clothes personally so I prefer to be more covered.

IceStationZebra · 28/03/2026 09:44

Leggings and a fitted t shirt, occasionally shorts if it’s warm. I did wear more strappier tops and shorter shorts when I was slimmer - baggy clothes are a bit dangerous at the gym and difficult to exercise in.

Havingasmashingtime · 28/03/2026 09:45

I wear an oversized AYBL tshirt and Gymshark leggings.

but it would be nice to live in a world where you can wear whatever you want to a gym and everyone be ok with it.
your comments are judgemental - wear whatever the F you want.
you do you, let the girls wear a bra if they want- who cares

RebeccaRedhat · 28/03/2026 19:07

Most of the girls in my gym are hot pants and bras, but eventhough I'm a size 8, im still full length leggings and a t shirt or vest. Only started wearing the vests recently as I can see some muscle when I'm exercising sometimes 🤣
West what you're comfortable in, i find 99% of people in the gym are looking at themselves anyway!

Grapewrath · 28/03/2026 19:15

I wear whatever I feel like.. even at ‘my age’ 🙄
I wear leggings, bra tops, halter necks and vests as well as fitted and baggy tees and trackies so a combo of them
i shop at aybl, Gymshark and H&M mostlly
Wear what you want- nobody will be ‘ogling you’ or likely even notice you

HeidiLite · 28/03/2026 19:31

Depends, my gym has massive windows and gets hot the second the sun is out. So if it's hot or if I do cardo, I may indeed wear shorts and crop top/sports bra. It's so much comfortable to exercise if you don't have sweaty t-shirt sticking onto you.
I may also wear tank tops with leggings or joggers.

Only thing I refuse to wear are those scrunch, bum enhancing leggings that many young people seem to love. I don't think anybody at the gym needs to get that familiar with certain details of my anatomy.

Keroppi · 28/03/2026 19:40

My gym has been bought out by roided out weightlifting fitness influencer/personal trainer guys so I see a lot of the ladies butt scrunch shorts and men in deep v cut tank tops. They actually had to implement a tshirt on in the gym rule and now there's a "posing room" Grin

I wear stretchy shorts & a baggy tshirt or gym leggings & a light hoody/hooded gym top thing.

Sainsbury's do some good gym wear and there's 20% off tu clothing atm.

PinkBuffalo · 28/03/2026 19:47

My comfort be key to me in the gym! I wear men’s football shorts and a colourful T-shirt!

TokyoTantrum · 28/03/2026 22:24

Leggings and a long sleeve Airism top from Uniqlo. I don't like my bare skin touching benches/machines if I can help it, both as a sensory thing (ew, sweat stick), and because of risk of skin infections

Bookmarkers · 28/03/2026 22:29

I wear all Sweaty Betty - 7/8 power leggings, athlete seamless vests and various of their long sleeve tops for before and after. I have at least 12 of everything. They get washed and tumble dried on repeat and stay like new.

Snowstorm25 · 28/03/2026 22:36

I wear Gymshark leggings and a t shirt - sometimes a vest, sometimes a cropped t shirt. Usually start in a hoody until I warm up a bit. The only time I get down to my sports bra is in spin class as I get so hot. There’s a real mix at my gym and to be honest I don’t really notice what people are wearing and I’m sure they couldn’t give two hoots what’s I’ve got on. I’m pretty sure no one is “ogling” anyone, whatever their outfit choice!
