Does anyone remember this song 'Wishing (I had a photograph of you)' from the Liverpool band A Flock of Seagulls?

For some reason this song came up today on YouTube - I'd forgotten how great this song was, with that synthesiser bit!

I have a double compilation CD called Electric Dreams and that song is on it. Lots of other great late 70s and 80s songs on there like Vienna, Human League, etc.
DS(17) has stolen the CD and has it on a lot!

Would be very interested in this track listing!

I thought it was on Pretty in Pink soundtrack but a Google search tells me it's not.
Does anyone have any idea which 80's, possibly John Hughes film it features on (if any!) 😂

Who watches the TOTP reruns on BBC4 on Friday evenings? It starts at 7pm with two back to back episodes (currently 1999), then two random episodes where you get to play Guess the Year. It's often two episodes from the 1980s, which is just as well as if it's the 70's or 90's I don't have a clue.

I had it as a picture disc. Probably still own it as well. I thought that the haircut came about when a stylist was let loose on them before TOTP and wanted to make Mike Batt look more interesting.

@JordanaBevan I’m not sure of any John Hugh’s films it’s in but I do know it’s in The Business which is a Nick Love movie with Danny Dyer. Fantastic film set in the 80s, the soundtrack is top drawer.

There are quite a lot of websites that detail songs featuring in films and TV, have you tried them. Sadly the art of remembering is rarely required nowadays

I have heard it but think it was during my Wham / Kajagoogoo days so there was no room for this in my head back when it was released lol

There’s a scene in (I think) an Austin Powers film where someone describes the 1980s as being ‘gas shortages and a flock of seagulls’. Lost on most people, but made me laugh!!

I heard it a lot when I was working in the US. I realised what a cult classic it had become over there when it was part of a skit in the TV show Two and a Half Men.

Charlie has to ring pest control because of seagulls in his house.... we can see him on the phone, but we can only hear his side of the conversation. At one point this goes

"why can't you help me? I have a flock of seagulls in my house."

Pause

"no, I DON'T know whatever happened to them!"

they have some other really good tunes by the way, I found them on Spotify. "never again the dancer" is very good. It's all very good.
