DD turned 18 in January and her gf has said she needs to be with him when he makes a deposit ?

He has also said due to a quirk in the system he can add to her jisa and and adult ISA ?
But her account changed to adult anyway ?

You can put £29k into an ISA in the tax year someone turns 18 but
the first £9k is a deposit into their junior isa that needs to be done before their 18th birthday
the next £20k is into their adult ISA and needs to be done after their 18th birthday and via a transfer from their own bank account

So if GF put nothing in yet, it’s only the £20k allowance that is available

What @PosiePerkinPootleFlump says is exactly correct. Now that she is 18, her JISA has converted to an adult one and she can pay in 20k before 5th April for this tax year and same again from 6th April for the next tax year. The opportunity to pay in the extra 9k has gone.

The money should come from her own bank account (We have ISAs with HL and once our kids turned 18, they had to send all money from their bank account).

Why can’t her GF send the money to her bank account and then she move it into her HL ISA? This can easily be done with a debit card. He doesn’t need to be anywhere near her.

Incidentally, we also pay into a SIPP pension with HL for our young adult kids, this goes straight from our bank account, it is only ISA payments that have to go from the ISA owners account.

As others have also said, HL have high fees, she would be better with an ISA from an online platform with lower fees. We are moving to Interactive Investor, but there are others.

@Vickyvogue25 for some bizarre reason I don't think he was told this
