What do you do on your birthday when it falls during the week? I mean on the actual day 🙂

I’ve taken the day off and the day after as it’s DD’s bday too. Intend to go for a fancy breakfast and take some chill time.

Meridas · 24/03/2026 22:38

Take the day off work if I can, lunch with a friend if available, a lazy day and maybe a takeaway or dinner out with my family.

BadLad · 24/03/2026 22:39

I just get a Happy Birthday on the day, then celebrate at the weekend, or sometimes even later if other things get in the way.

Make cakes the night before to take to work, then depending on other commitments in the evening maybe go out for a meal but that is often moved to the following weekend, for a long time we were taxiing DCs to sports etc a lot on weeknights and now we have our own hobbies.

But always have cake and candles on the birthday evening.

Take the day off!

This year it happened to be in a day where the baby had a full day at nursery, so DH also took the day off and we had a lovely slow morning together, went out for a boozy lunch, walked along the promenade, watched a movie and then picked her up. Was really nice having some time to ourselves

Pre-kid we used to book out something like a theme park/experience but now all we want to do is have some peace and quiet 😆

Nice evening meal at home and a bottle of wine.

Miranda65 · 24/03/2026 22:50

Nothing. But then I do nothing when it falls on a weekend! I'm not sure that most adults bother, do they?

I always take the day off. Usually go out for a nice lunch, or dinner, or both with DH and/or DC

TeenLifeMum · 24/03/2026 22:53

Mine’s next week and dh and I have the day off. We’re going for a meal the night before with dc, spending the day walking the dog with a nice pub lunch then off the the centre parcs spa in the evening.

Ikeameatballs · 24/03/2026 22:55

I always try to take the day off work.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 24/03/2026 23:00

Go to work as normal and then perhaps have a nice steak for dinner at home in the evening. Same as if was a weekend really.

Sleepysnoozytime · 24/03/2026 23:00

Cake and gifts, that’s it. I can’t take odd days off easily, so if it lands on a work day we just mark the occasion and then do something on the nearest weekend. Same with the kids on a school day.
I don’t need a big fuss.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 24/03/2026 23:01

I hate taking annual leave at any time so I certainly work my
birthday.

Although if I’m wfh, it is usually grab my food and eat it then go back to work.

DawnAnn · 24/03/2026 23:02

I always book the day off work and go out for lunch with DH. We do the same for his birthday.

AnnaMagnani · 24/03/2026 23:03

Am not wasting a day of annual leave on a birthday.

I'll open my cards and that's it,

EasterlyDirection · 24/03/2026 23:16

I won't take annual leave for mine either it's in the middle of winter and as I'm part time I try to take most of it in whole week blocks, single days eat into it too much. Anyway I like going to work it's nice to be with a group of friends on your birthday.

grafittiartist · 24/03/2026 23:17

Work. But then my lovely colleagues make a fuss on birthdays.
Have a nice tea at home, or go out- as a family. Maybe drinks the nearest weekend.
