Birthday Party Celebration

My child is 12
Her friend's mum has texted saying her daughter is going ice skating for her birthday and would my child like to come?
They would be going for dinner after as well

Would they pay for my child in this case? Because it's like a birthday celebration/party? Is this what usually happens?

Yes, for sure. You could always confirm with the mum though? 🥰

It just feels really awkward saying that!

I don't even know her!

Oh gosh, I hate things like this! It’s so awkward, I’d send a messsge on the lines of ‘how much is ice skating so I can send DD with the correct amount’ then hopefully the host mum will say ‘oh nothing it’s on us’ good luck

Text her saying, yeah sure, how much does she need to cover cost etc, then go from there xx

purpleme12 · 24/03/2026 17:28

Oh right ok yes I could send something like that actually

Didn't even think about this when I said she could come!

It’s gets so expensive birthdays etc

mindutopia · 24/03/2026 17:44

Yes, they’d pay for her. I’d still send spending money along though.

youalright · 24/03/2026 17:47

I would expect them to pay but wouldn't assume it at 12 id get your daughter to ask her mate if her mums paying or if she needs money. Cuts out the awkwardness

I quite like how the mum's texted me about this (rather than it going through the children) so I think i might text her back asking with one of the suggestions made earlier
