I’m a 41 year old woman. I’ve always had a sensitive digestion- if I eat the wrong food I can be running for the loo pretty immediately. Last night I had chicken salad pitta breads about 7pm. Went to the toilet about 9pm and everything very normal - if anything a bit constipated. I woke up about 2.30 having messed the bed a bit. Not huge amounts but enough to leave me in no doubt that a bit of diarrhoea had come out. This has never happened to me before, I felt awful. Had to wake DP up and change the sheets etc. he was wonderful and has been lovely today and worked from home to be with me.
I’m a bit stressed at the moment - my dad had pancreatic cancer and has just had surgery. I’m also waiting on a diagnosis for sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.

please help me feel better!!

I’m so sorry. That must have been horrible.

A couple of years back I’d had a sore stomach all day. I was sitting eating dinner, started coughing and farted…. Except it wasn’t a fart. Terrible diarrhoea came out. I was mortified. Nothing like that had ever happened before.

I hope my woe makes you feel less alone!

I'm sorry that happened. I have IBSD and have had some episodes that left me panicked and in pain. I've realised my DH genuinely is supportive and just trained myself to stop thinking about it. I know that what helped me is not eating bread and only drinking lacto free milk, bar once a week possibly sourdough slice which is easier on the digestive system. Just move on. Watch a film or something and forget it.

My DH did the same some years ago, except he didn't realise and it was me who found out....

We just changed the bed, he went for a shower and changed, we popped everything straight into the washing machine and that was it.... over. I'm pretty sure he doesn't remember, I haven't forgotten but I don't forget much.

Happens to the best of us .
My mishap wasn't in bed as I woke up knowing I needed the loo immediately .
However I have to turn sideways to get past the bed and left a long line along the side of the bed / duvet cover and also the floor as I ran to the toilet !

It's funny how cultures and traditions differ - there is remote island off the coast of the Galapagos where the wedding ceremony is consummated/constipated by the man/wife that shits the bed first. Hence the expression, to have the gallops.

Op you have nothing to worry about
