Do you tell the person who gave you a gift card what you bought with it?

I do, will say "it went towards x" or "look what you got me for my birthday"

I normally do especially if it’s a gift card from a family member or a really good friend,

Not since I was about 8 !

not as an adult, but my kids would write a thank you card and say what they bought with it.

I do, yes.

I got a John Lewis gift card once and we were so skint so ironically I bought some food in Waitrose, no lobster just their standard stuff! Hilarious to think we were skint and buying food in Waitrose but it was a godsend at the time.

I do , I think it’s a nice thing to do , shows the person that you remember their kindness and what you did with it . However I’ve probably had 2 in the last 10 years so what do I know 🤨

PashaMinaMio · 21/03/2026 09:30

I’m probably old/fashioned but …

Yes I would send a thank you & then when I spend it, might let them know what it went towards.
In the same way I really like knowing what the young family members spend theirs on.

If nothing else it’s kind and appreciative. There’s too much “entitlement” out there these days. I like being old school. 🤷‍♀️

I do. Brother usually sends me an Amazon card. Last one I spent on a new bag that I really wanted and I got a good deal on so I messaged him to tell him.

JoeTheDrummer · 21/03/2026 14:17

Usually when I get it I say what I intend to spend it on - ‘thank you so much for my John Lewis voucher, there’s a bag there I’ve had my eye on so will put it towards that’ kind of thing. I think it just seems a bit nicer!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/03/2026 14:26

If mini blondes is given one for Xmas for bday I send a pic of what she bought saying thank you

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 21/03/2026 14:28

No, as an adult I figure they probably don’t really care!

rainbowunicorn22 · 21/03/2026 16:31

yes I would think it is nice to show people how delighted you were with the gift.
My sister bought me a book token for my birthday, which I was delighted with, could not have bought myself a better gift! Anyway, I bought three books, including one on helping with grieving a loved pet as I had just lost a special dog. My sister did put on the tokens card she hoped i would find a book that would help and comfort me so I was delighted to tell her yes I had found smashing books
