What will you do to mark the late Queen's 100th?

On 21st April 2026, it will be what would have been the late HMTQ's 100th birthday.

Even though she passed away nearly four years ago, I know some people still miss her.

So, will you be commemorating the day or remember your late sovereign in any way on that day? Maybe a minute or two of silence or watching some royal documentaries or attending a church service of remembrance since I've heard some churches will be doing so?

Or, have you decided not to?

I won't celebrate it, no doubt read articles about it or see on tv. Much as I think the Queen did a lot of good during her reign.

Shouldbedoing · 20/03/2026 11:59

Nothing. She's gone.

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 20/03/2026 12:04

I've already had my plans firmly in place for the last three years, as this is obviously sooooo important.

I'm meeting up with RuPaul in our favourite New York borough. I've booked my room at the hotel - I paid to upgrade to one with a bed that's a bit (but not too much) bigger than a standard double, as I do like to spread myself out and starfish.

In the morning, we have a table reserved as a suitably exquisite bistro, where we will both partake in 'our' special jam and meringue-based dessert, after which we'll lead the good folk of the borough in a rousing (but respectful) performance of Bohemian Rhapsody (the extended version) in the park - with Billy Ocean on the piano, as we love the fact that he was born in the Caribbean and sings songs related to his love of a special lady from the same part of the world.

It's going to be emotional.

Nothing. It isn't her 100th birthday as she's dead.

This. People don’t continue to age after they die.

DannyDeever · 20/03/2026 12:08

I'll invite her over but I'm not optimistic.

Lostallhistory · 20/03/2026 12:09

Why on earth celebrate a dead person's birthday?

I don't know how I'll be celebrating the occasion. But I know that she would have been celebrating by sending herself a card.

What, why? Where did you see this, and why is it LOL-worthy?

It sounds really juvenile...

Saw it in The Sun did you? Wink

.

Edited

Yes, I'm quite juvenile, thanks. I hate to break it to you Zov, but the Sun comic is staunchly royalist and I don't think they will be busting out Cowmilla any time soon 😊

microwavecurry · 20/03/2026 12:13

Not you again..

If you really want to know what I'll be doing I will be weeping into my cup of tea. And mourning the demise of such a wonderful woman who meant so much to the nation. My curtains will remain closed, I will be dressed in black mourning wear and the mirrors in my house will be covered. Not sure how I am going to do the inbuilt mirrored wardrobe doors. Would it be disrespectful to cover them with a Union Jack flag?

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 20/03/2026 12:17

I'm sure Channel 5 will have adverts for a special commemorative coin for the occasion, starring Michael Buerk. They think of everything - they even remembered to mark the anniversary of exactly 17 years, 23 weeks and 6 days having passed since some celebrity once remarked how happy they were that post-its had been invented.

Get your order in there quick, though, as only one in every 5,000 households will be able to own one.

Aposterhasnoname · 20/03/2026 12:18

I'm the biggest flag waving royalist you'll ever come across, but even I think this is batshit

Trinity65 · 20/03/2026 12:21

I'll not give it a second thought is what I'm doing

Eskarina1 · 20/03/2026 12:21

My interest in the Queen was solely nostalgia for my grandmothers and great aunt who were her age, shared the formative life experience of the war and saw her as a contemporary they respected. And a little nostalgia for the childhood where the national anthem and royal weddings and stories of royal garden parties played a minor role.

She was a living reminder of that 20 years after they were gone.

But now she'd dead, it's my grandmother's 100th birthday I vaguely thought about this year.

Plus it's really hard to think nostalgically about the Queen when we know she actually held us in contempt. Her son was entitled to live a life of luxury and get away with being a sexual abuser.

gamerchick · 20/03/2026 12:22

Are you the poster who asked if we keep a picture of her on the wall?

I don't even remember the date straight after I read it in the OP.

Spidey66 · 20/03/2026 12:22

Oh and I didn’t decide not to mark it. It just didn’t come on to my radar to do so in the first place!

Itsasecretnow · 20/03/2026 12:27

Fuck all.

Also, I don't think her complicity with AMBs criminal activities leaves much to admire. She knew and did nothing.

You have evidence to back that statement up?

MaggieBsBoat · 20/03/2026 12:36

Never met the woman. I don’t usually
commemorate people I don’t know. People die all the time.

gostickyourheadinapig · 20/03/2026 12:39

Is Sex Traffickers' Mothers' Day a thing now?

Nothing. It isn't her 100th birthday as she's dead.

This.

And, no I don't give Elizabeth a thought, as I dislike the monarchy.

TittyGajillions · 20/03/2026 12:44

The same as I did when she was alive...bugger all.

Port1aCastis · 20/03/2026 12:53

Nope I'm not celebrating someone who's dead and anyway I never met the woman and I haven't got much care for her family either. They're a perve , a king who committed adultery and a lot of hangers on clothed by thee and me the taxpayer, so I don't have much time for any of them

Oh, definitely use the flags. Upside down and back to front. Held on with blutak. Then sit in the wardrobe for the entire 24 hours drinking gin (if that was her fave beverage? I don’t actually know but it sounds fitting) and petting imaginary corgis. Or - as something far more fun than the above - you could visit the country’s biggest, stinkiest landfill with a deckchair, and drink the gin there. I think I’d definitely find the latter far more enjoyable than the former. Especially if sandwiches are involved and you get divebombed and shat on by hundreds of filthy seagulls! 😄 I can’t think of much more British than that! Can you knit a hanky and roll your trousers up to your knees? You’re no patriot if you cba to do any if the above! 👸🏼

strugglingwithlife · 20/03/2026 12:59

Why would anyone care. The royals are a load of corrupt nonce's and scroungers and I have no time for any of them. As for the queen, queen mother, Phillip etc, good bloody riddance!

Tiddlywinks63 · 20/03/2026 13:00

Bugger all.
OK?
