I asked my friend round for lunch today ...

And she accepted the invite. She said she would bring her own coffee (because she only drinks a particular type), and biscuits. I said "lovely".

So she came. I put the kettle on. She got out her coffee - a filter type thing. And then she got out the biscuits. When I say "biscuits" I actually mean "biscuit. One biscuit. One solitary biscuit.

To be fair to her, she said she'd meant to bring two but she'd already left the house when she realised she'd grabbed the wrong packet and couldn't be bothered to go back.

And the icing on the cake (hah cake - I should be so lucky!) is that the one biscuit came from one of those packets of 2 you get in hotels next to the kettle in your room ...

Who said I'm pissed off or worked up?! I think it's funny. I thought some others might too so decided to share the joy a little.

I just couldn’t get worked up over this.

Where are you getting worked up from? It's obviously meant to be lighthearted!

For fuck sake, comprehension isn't your strong point is it, or are you one of those posters just looking for an excuse to have a go at someone?

pissed off?

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 19/03/2026 21:30

" But I don't think she's done anything to top today's one biscuit! I love her dearly - and she did offer to share it with me so ... :)"

Awh... at least you know she'd give you half of her only free hotel biscuit OP 😂

BoarBrush · 19/03/2026 21:36

We moved house coming up to 2 weeks ago, the old dears next door at the old house invited us round for coffee at one and then lunch at the others on Monday there. Well it was fucking biscuit galore, as always. I whinged to dd yesterday that we also need 6+ biscuit tubs as I really fancied one, we have NONE! Tesco now 2 mins away though...

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/03/2026 21:49

She isnt eccentric, she is just plain tight.

Cannot stand meaness. You gave her a lovely generous lunch and she saw nothing wrong in only bringing two biscuits, and then upon discovering that she had only in fact brought one.....told you about it!

swingingbytheseat · 19/03/2026 22:29

Tightness does my head in, I just don’t get it

BauhausOfEliott · 19/03/2026 22:45

Even if they brought a whole packet with them, I’d be appalled at anyone who thinks one biscuit is a full portion.

"Old dears"? Really?

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/03/2026 23:09

You’re recovering from surgery so she should have brought you lunch!

Haha @Wendyer are you sure she isn't on TikTok as frugal confessions?

I came here to say that.
I watch some serious ones on IG too. It's like a new team "A day in the life of a frugal person" I find them fascinating yet depressing at the same time.
They always sound mopey yet smug with the "I don't believe in spending money on...." But scrimp off others who pay?!

Sorry to go off topic then OP! Your friend does sound sweet and maybe just had lots of things going on? You sound like a great friend too xx

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/03/2026 06:42

Is she tight though? Or is she just very literal and not very good with social norms?

Delatron · 20/03/2026 07:32

I dont think she’s tight? Just disorganised and forgetful. Unless she shows tightness in any other situations.

It’s a packet of biscuits. What do they cost £3? She probably forgot to get some in. You don’t need biscuits for a lunch..

If she reciprocates the lunch and is not tight in other areas all is good.

Wendyer · 20/03/2026 17:11

She's careful with money but I wouldn't describe her as tight. I do sometimes think she takes it a bit too far and gives herself more hassle than it's worth - but that's her choice.

I saw a couple of these on IG the other day and was open-mouthed with horror at some random woman putting water on her cereal while showing off about how much money she was saving on milk. Lunacy.

Yep, there are some skit versions and satire ones but the serious ones make me feel very depressed and I don't know why. I think it's the attitude behind it as I don't think all frugal people struggle with money, some it's just a lifestyle and they enjoy it great for them but why feed yourself a very poor diet just to save money like the water cereal lady.

If I say I'll bring some biscuits, I'll call at the supermarket and get a selection, two packs minimum! I know what a biscuit muncher I can be!!! One broken in half doesn't even fill the gap in your teeth! Lunch sounded lovely though OP, my kind of lunch that!

youalright · 20/03/2026 20:26

People have different personalities and quirks. This would make me laugh.

I have bat shit friends like this too and I bloody love them. That she feels comfortable enough with you to do something so bonkers is wonderful!

400rider · 22/03/2026 08:38

Oh, wish she was my girlfriend, she sounds my sort of person. I too save aircraft party packs and hotel complimentary snacks for use later on a day out.

I also have a friend who (was an alcoholic) only drinks hot or cold water, sometimes goes made and adds juice. So I take my coffee when I visit, because although she will have tea or coffee in the cupboard for visitors she probably bought it when Maggie was still prime minister
