Is CBD oil worth trying for anxiety, or a waste of money?

Just that really. Was thinking about buying some to help with anxiety and to become a bit calmer overall. But is it all just a big hype?
I joined a Facebook group which has something to do with CDB brothers to find out a bit more as their own website gives no information, and to see some real peoples experiences, but I think the posts on there are censored as there are no negative comments at all. Just how wonderful everything is.
Am I just wasting my money? All the stuff online seems to suggest so.

Personally I think it’s a waste of money unless you’re buying CBD flower, which is illegal in the UK anyway. All the legitimate scientific studies are on doses much, much higher than you can achieve through OTC stuff. Sorry! Excercise is much more effective and evidence based although I get it’s not possible for everyone.

I did find it helped, you have to really research and make sure you get the good quality stuff though and you have to take it for a while. I used endoca. I lived in a country for a few years where it wasn’t allowed and I did miss it. But I got out of the habit and haven’t gone back to it. I take ashwagandha now to take the edge off my anxiety. Exercise makes me feel more positive but it doesn’t get rid of anxiety for me.

Didn’t make any difference for me. What did help a lot though was cold water swimming and also hypnotherapy.

I tried the gummies and didn’t notice any difference. I do think Kalms are quite good

Why not just tackle the underlying cause? Have a look at Tim Box’s Ted X - how not to be anxious about anxiety.

A lot of it doesn’t even contain what it says, I found it to be expensive snake oil tbh.

I found it strange that the Facebook page was so one sided. Usually you get a mix of experiences but not on this one which raised a red flag for me so I thought I’d ask here.
Yet another remedy to swerve then.

I’ve spent far too much money over the years on vitamins etc chasing some relief.

I found both Kalms and Rescue Remedy to be effective.

I have not tried CBD oil, but, on vets advice, I tried it on my arthritic dog, to help with pain. Absolutely zero effect .

I'm talking blessed CBD stay calm gummies. I think it helps. I take one when I feel about to lose it, at the point I used to take propranolol which used to make me so ill. The CBD is certainly better than the Propranolol for me.

I'd be very careful stepping on the ladder of drugs op. My neighbour decided to start smoking (marigwina) and in less then 2 years he is now on the top rung of dragon chasing which is the most serious and about to fall off if you ask me

DogAnxiety · 19/03/2026 22:52

I am choosing to believe @ShakyBake is pulling our legs here. The risk of progressing from a supplement sold in Holland and Barrett, to scag in 2 years is probably quite small ;)

Yeah it can help, but not that miracle stuff people hype up. Biggest issue is people take random doses and expect calm mode instantly. I went through that loop, wasted money on weak oils, felt nothing.

Then I figured out timing matters too, saw some mention of ante cibum on relief when I was digging around and tried taking it before food instead of after, weirdly hit stronger for me. Not dramatic, but enough to take the edge off. If you try it, don't just eyeball dose and timing like I did at first.
