There seem to be lots of ads on Instagram with Temu items looking great and great value.
I've never bought from them as always presumed everything was crap.
Am I wrong?

You’re not wrong. It’s basically made by people who are little more than slaves and mass produced using dangerous chemicals. Environmentally unsafe and ethically wrong. Buying from them is supporting slave labour.

No, you’re not wrong.

The planet is drowning in junk. I abhor Temu, and the people who shop there. No morals, just "I bought this cheap and will throw it away next week".

Lararoft · 16/03/2026 10:29

I read that the govt are concerned as Temu is actually owned & run by the Chinese govt as a way of harvesting Westerners details inc bank details. I can’t provide a link for this as it was over 2 years ago. But I think it was BBC or similar.

I refuse to buy anything from Temu or Shein, for a variety of reasons. Slave labour being the primary reason. I’m not happy to buy into it.

hiintrepidheroes · 16/03/2026 10:31

Shein seems to be the go to supplier for wannabe influencers mass buying clothes for a few seconds of video footage.

I’m in exactly the same position. There is no “stuff” I want or need so badly it would induce me to support this trade.

It’s cheap tat made by people in virtually slave labor conditions and its all adding to landfill and environmental damage to the planet, I can’t think of any redeeming features of Temu or Shein and I wouldn’t buy from either.
