Has anyone had a worse Mother’s Day that me? (Lighthearted, but come on!)

Our lovely dog woke me up being sick. That’s fine, dog life right?

We are affected by the current situation and today is our day to call and get a refund / reroute with our airline, so got on a call and entered a waitlist….

As a Mother’s Day present I got some wrapped up butter from the kids. Amazing. I do like butter 😂

Went to lunch with our whole family… restaurant didn’t have our booking. Couldn’t find our booking… checked… were booked for next week. Fantastic. (Them, not us, but nothing they can do.)

Incredibly found a local place to take us all, turned up, the reason we could fit is that they’re not serving food. Fine. Let’s just have a drink. Except the reason they’re not serving food is that they’re closing down. No wine left. Okay. That’s fine.

Meanwhile, DH has had his AirPods in listening to hold music from the airline now for 4 hours.

As they announce no wine, they also cut him off.

Fantastic.

let’s cut all losses, go home.

We plan to order something, call the airline again, do ‘holding’ from the sofa.

Get home, the dog has eaten the butter.

Anticipating dog sick again tomorrow. And we are still on hold.

Happy Mothers Day!

Mine was pretty crap.
Im at my parents as my elderly DF has depression and DM is recovering from a pretty serious operation. I talked DF down from delirium last night, have made meals for them all. DF is like a rain cloud all the time, totally self absorbed and had a small tantrum when I wanted to go for a walk alone. Doesn’t help DM at all.
Then DSis turned up and did precisely 0 to help. So I brought myself a pastry on my walk and ate it.
Its probably the worse one I’ve had in 20 or so years of mothering.
Got a nice card from DS2 and a message from DS1. We have agreed we will do Mother’s Day together when they are back home from uni.

Oh OP that’s the gift that keeps on giving 🤮🐶

stickydough · 15/03/2026 22:10

Aw no. What a day and I hope there is some genuine cheer in that funny telling the story, and not just depressed, gallows humour…

QuirkyHorse · 15/03/2026 22:10

Had a migraine and spent all afternoon in bed sleeping it off.
Had some lovely presents from my dd's when I got up.

Brewtiful · 15/03/2026 22:15

Wow that's quite the day, love the bloody dog eating the butter, icing on the cake on a shit day. You're a lot more stoic than most would be. I hope you ordered a bloody lovely take away and you get plenty of wine tomorrow. Maybe you could have a do over next weekend.

treetop122 · 15/03/2026 22:16

I’m recovering from surgery I had yesterday.
Poor DH has been running around after the kids all weekend and he is tired…
he got me some lovely presents that he didn’t need to get me. I am in a lot of pain and the sound of the kids arguing because we couldn’t get them out of the house has irritated me all day!

SMM2020 · 15/03/2026 22:16

Sick toddler, 4 hours broken sleep, up at 5am with him, OH was up too tbf, call to 111 then out of hours this morning whilst he cried all the way there, during the appointment and way back as he HATES all medical settings…understandable!

But I did manage to go to the gym, bought loads of cake and picked up a coffee, home for a nap myself whilst my OH took our children to his mums. He made a roast and now I’m sitting here sneezing my head off, likely have whatever plague youngest currently has. My birthday’s this week and I know that’s going to be spent in bed surrounded by tissues at this rate 😬

I thought I'd help out the friend I was cat sitting for by washing the cushions her cat had wee'd on... Yup, feather cushions, rotted out by the wee, my washing machine screaming "clean filter" OK, only problem is washing machine is full of water, didn't appreciate that, opened the filter and flooded my kitchen 😞 Have used 6 bath sheets, 3 hand towels, numerous tea towels and the mop... Washing machine is still upset, going to have to drag it out and manually drain it out the back door multiple times to (hopefully!) clear the problem 😞
On the upside my kitchen floor is beautifully clean 😭😭😭

dicentra365 · 15/03/2026 22:31

Mine was pretty crap. My dd was sad because she had lost the card she had made (obviously told her that I would love it just as much whenever she found it) Nothing from teen. Did some jobs around the house then i cooked a nice roast, dh conveniently then disappeared to finish something he has been doing for work, kids also disappeared leaving me with all the clearing up. Argument with teen later where he told me I was being a dickhead (I was, but still). I feel so unappreciated. I should probably give them all a kick up the arse but for various reasons I am too tired and weighed down with other things to tackle it. Anyway, I will be bringing the same energy to Fathers Day. (Although not for my Dad - he’s awesome!)

Happiestathome · 15/03/2026 22:32

You did make me laugh there 🤣. I even read it out to DH. What a day you’ve had!! Love your storytelling style. I hope tomorrow is a much better day for you 🙏

HotRootsAndNaughtyToots · 15/03/2026 22:46

Why did they give you butter? Was it fancy?

behindanothername · 15/03/2026 23:16

single parenting neurodivergent kids, non-existent Mother’s Day… however I did get the gift of head lice with sensory challenges to deal with 😱🤦🏼‍♀️

notnorman · 16/03/2026 11:15

I sat in a and e for four hours!

BasiliskStare · 16/03/2026 11:20

@Florally There's a Mother's Day every year - that anecdote will live with you ever . Such a lovely post and funny post if not a lovely day. Thank you. 😂💐
