Do I need to return a Vinted item if I’ve been refunded?

Bought a dress on Vinted which wasn't as described both on the ad and in a DM I sent the seller to confirm the listing was correct. I've returned it, the seller has refunded, I messaged her to say I'd returned it, but I've now received an email to say she hasn't collected it and it's on its way back to me. I messaged her but she said she hadn't been able to collect it in time. It's a brand new dress from Phase Eight with the tags still on - cost £40 so not just a couple of pounds - so quite why she didn't collect it I don't know. Should I offer to return it again? I don't know how Vinted works in these cases.

I’d ask Vinted to be sure, but it sounds as if you kept your side of the deal

Get her to PayPal you the money to send it again if she wants it

GroovyChick87 · 15/03/2026 18:34

It was her fault for not collecting. Vinted strongly advises moving payments off the platform. What I wouldn't do is give out my bank details. I'd be tempted to not send it back.

SaucepanRattle · 15/03/2026 18:35

You've done your bit. When I've sent something and it hasn't been collected in time they've paid to have it sent again. Not quite the same as your case but you have held up your end of the bargain.

GroovyChick87 · 15/03/2026 18:36

Alternatively you could list it for £1 and have her buy it back.

SirChenjins · 15/03/2026 18:53

I do feel I've fone my bit - each time I got an update from Vinted about the return I messaged her but she ignored them until the last one when she said she hadn't been able to collect it. Between that and the message I sent to confirm the sizing I feel I've spent enough time on this. I'm

I like the suggestion that you list for £1, message her to say it’s reserved for her (3 dots on top right) for the next 3/5 days so she doesn’t miss out. If she doesn’t do that I would just remove it from Vinted and donate it. Morally it’s not right to profit from it or wear it IMO.

SirChenjins · 16/03/2026 15:13

Yes I agree - it's very frustrating though. I've spent a lot of time messaging her and then having to drive to the InPost lockers, only to potentially have to do this for a third time.

Let Vinted sort it out.
They always do...... eventually.

NotAWurstToIt · 16/03/2026 15:22

If this ever happens again (and hopefully it doesn’t!), once you’ve returned something don’t message the seller - they will have got lots of alerts from Vinted to tell them to collect the item, so you honestly don’t need to. I know you did it to be helpful.
According to Vinted rules you now aren’t obliged to do anything - you could just block her, but if you are feeling kind then I think PPs suggestion of listing it, reserving it for her for a time limit are a good one, however, be prepared for her to not buy it in the time you give and then bother you about it. If that happens then definitely block her.

SirChenjins · 16/03/2026 15:28

@NotAWurstToIt yes, the saying about no good deed going unpunished is springing to mind here. It was the fact that I messaged her twice to check the sizing, and she swore blind that it was the size she'd listed it as when it wasn't is really irritating.

Vinted is quite wild at times! 🤣 I bought a vintage 1970s vase from there and it arrived, I kid you not, in one layer of bubble wrap and a padded envelope. Of course it was smashed to pieces and the seller was most perturbed because they “always wrap things that way”.

GroovyChick87 · 16/03/2026 17:03

I'd just leave it then, the transaction is complete. It's not your fault she didn't collect on time. I'd just block her.
